So I have been working on my credit for a while now. I went to apply for the Amex Gold. Its the one card that would fit my spending very well and I have been trying to get it and possibly get lucky with an approval lately. Usually get instantly denied, but as of today they at least asked me to connect my banks I assume for income verification. Is that a good sign my credit is improving? And is it worth even calling the reconsideration line and having that conversation?
I only connected my checking accounts, didnt feel it was necessary to add my auto loan account to the verification. Unless someone has more input on that?
Credit is currently 655, still a little low, so maybe I need to do a little more improving first I suppose?

they wouldn't have asked you to connect your bank account if they didn't want to approve you
connect your primary bank account where all of your income comes in and hope for the best
are there any other aspects of your credit report where you can improve, or have you already paid back everybody in full/settled in full?

I think at this point its my utilization probably. I have no negatives on my report, utilization is still high, around 70. Ill have it down to like 30-40 in a month or so. I had to connect both banks (Portion goes to another account for bill purposes)
I think you hit the nail on the head. That utilization is killing your score.
As @GZG mentions, this is a good sign that they want to approve you. Hopefully, once they verify your income, they'll approve you. Good luck.
Did they end up approving you?

They ended up denying me via the inital automated income verification.
I called the reconsideration line, and the last time I did this they basically straight up said no chance and didnt move me forward, and essentially confirmed the denial.
This time they forward my profile to underwriting. Should take 3-5 days they said, unfortunately yesterday was friday.
Will update when I get an answer.
Bare minimum, once my utilization drops after I get back ahead I have a feeling my chances are high at approval.

Best of luck! Keep us posted on how it all turns out. Hope it works out for you!

Ultimately got denied, basically just a utilization issue. Once I pay that down my score should get a pretty good jump and a way better looking overall report. Thats the only real issue I have going for me.

Try to get aggregate UT below 29% and individual card UTs below 49% as a first step. Then, for an even bigger score boost, get aggregate below 9% and all cards reporting balances below 29%.
