Hello
Is it true that Amex will not approve u for another Amex card if u have an open Optima card?
I doubt it. Why not use one of their pre approval tools to get an idea?
You can get approved for additional Amex cards but I'm pretty sure the Optima has to be open for a minimum of 12 months.
Some of us long-term AMEX card holders still have Optima accounts from the late 80's/ early 90's when Optima was their first credit card and carried a very attractive interest rate. Having a basic card got you the basic Optima, a gold card gave you a gold Optima and holding the Platinum card equated into the Platinum Optima. I don't think there was any notable difference other than the card's look and that the card's insurance matched the color of your AMEX main card. I hardly use mine but it is enrolled in my membership rewards program and reports as a 38 year old account.
Surprisingly I had some fraud on the unused
card last year. The AMEX rep gave me the option of keeping the account open without issuing a replacement card so that I could keep the card seniority on my credit report without worrying that anyone would use the account. I turned down the option as I was worried they might still close the account at some point in the future if their policies change.

I've had my Optima for 18 months after doing their rebuild program. Just got accepted for Amex Platinum and Hilton Aspire (did 2 for 1 pull same day) yesterday while still having Optima open. Hope this helps.

I actually had Amex send me an email about applying for their cards while on the Optima program. Went to the preapproval tool and saw that the Platinum and Aspire were offered as cards to apply for. I did the Platinum first, got accepted and then took a chance on the Aspire an hour later. I remembered from being on these forums about Amex using one pull for their cards within 90 days if you don't have many inquiries, good FICO and decent credit health.
