I just checked online to see if I was approved for the American Express Platinum card, and it took forever to process after I hit submit. (The blue circle processed a long time) I was hoping that was a good sign, but then I got this message: "We've received your application, but we can't give you a decision right now. We'll process your application as soon as possible and send you a decision within 14 days."
Is this a good thing, or should I expect a denial?
I thought that message means denied - in my case, the envelope that eventually showed up felt too light for there to be a Platinum card inside. This was all they had to say.

Awwww... I was hoping that maybe it was a verification thing, since I just moved to a new home and changed my address.
I've never gotten this message before, and usually when I'm instantly denied, it speeds through after the submit button. This time, it spun for a good minute, and I was hoping that meant I was going to be approved!
Has anyone ever received this message and later been approved? And if you were approved, did you have to call in, or did they email you with the approval?
Hope you receive an approval. Good luck!

Thank you! I travel a lot for work, so I've been wanting the Amex Platinum card for a while now.

I usually don't trust those automatic denials, and whatnot - case in point... In fact, this might have something to do with how AmEx will seemingly only talk to or otherwise approve existing (not new) members? Another time they asked me for an IRS form - which was a made-up request? They never processed it, just sent me a carbon copy of the last letter (pictured) and a vague suggestion to "try applying again."

I wish AmEx was reasonable towards people like that, too... Especially once you consider those willing to give them a heavy annual fee. $$$

A family member recently had this experience. They called in and the rep had them submit a new application. It said 14 days but three days later they got an email congratulating them. Any known issues that could make a reason of this?
Have you called them? I would call and try to find out what is happening with the app.
I hope you find an approval![]()

@JenW83Could go either way. When I applied for my BCP I thought I was getting a denial after getting that message (I was past the 5yr1 mo rule for BKs but not by much). I was got an approval 30 min later for $5k (a little over a year later I'm still at $5k due to that BK7).
