I was approved for the Premier Rewards Gold Amex card last year. It has been a little over 12 months since I received the card. My travel needs are picking up and I noticed when I checked for offers I was pre-approved for the Platinum Amex with 6ok bonus points.
Am I eligible for the Platinum bonus? Due to the changes in my spending needs and travel, I could make much more use of the Platinum benefits as opposed to the PRG but I don't want to app and close my gold if I won't get the bonus points. Can anyone with experience with this explain the best strategy for picking up the Platinum and the bonus points?
If you have never held and/or received the Platinum card before you're eligible for the bonus. And since you're a PRG cardholder pretty sure you'll get approved for the Plat with no issues at all. Just to be on the safe side what are you scores looking like at the moment?

Yes you are eligible for the Platinum MR bonus points if you meet the spend requirement. You having (and either keeping or closing) the PRG doesn't affect that one bit. However, as the bonus points are a once in a lifetime per card (you actually can get bonus points multiple times with the different variations of the Platinum card), I would do my best to hold out to get the 100K points offer over the 60K one. Try places like cardmatch.com and Google other sites to see if you can find that offer. You may need to use either an incognito browser or VPN service to find one. The extra 40K points which are worth at least $800 is worth holding out and finding that offer. Good luck.
Thank you for the replies. I'm not going to pull the trigger now. My experian score is in the high 640's. It dropped recently due to high utilization but I just paid all of my balances down. Once everything reports I should be back up in at least the 660's to low 670's so I will be patient but thanks for the feedback.
I will keep my eyes open for the 100k MR points offer.
I am in a similar boat to the OP, so I am bumping this rather than creating a new one. Any tips for teasing the 100k offer out of Amex? I have had my PRG for over two years, use it regularly, and have enjoyed it. I will be doing even more travel than usual this year and would love the Platinum for the lounges but don't want to settle for a lesser signup. None of the incognito or cardmatch methods have worked. Perhaps Amex is content that they already have my business.
If it is relevant my scores are in the 760 range, utilization 3-5% each month, and I also have the BCP with a $15k limit.
