Amex Platinum

Hi all,

Just looking for some advice on an Amex platinum application. I have a PRG and annual fee is coming up next month and have decided I don't use it enough to pay the 195. I have an upgrade to platinum option but no bonus. On top of that, I'm pre approved for 60,000 MR for a new application but I would need to cancel PRG.

Hard to know which option to go for. Any thoughts?

Im a little con-fuzzled.  You cannot justify a $195 AF, but you are thinking of upgrading to a $550 AF card???

Con-fuzzle #2.  If you were going to upgrade a PRG to PLAT, you would have lost the PRG account. So if you app instead for the PLAT, I dont see any problem with having to cancel your PRG ( before the AF hits that is )

Re: Amex Platinum

Sorry for confusion. The net cost of 150 on the platinum with the superior benefits is more justifiable to me than the net 95 on the PRG with minimal benefits.

It basically comes down to going for an upgrade and no bonus with no HP vs a new app with 60000 MR and a new Hp.

Re: Amex Platinum

I think in situations like these, it’s totally up to you. There is no right or wrong answer. What is important to you? Do you mind having another HP? Are you going to be able to meet the $5K minimum spend? If so, is an HP worth 60K miles (transferable to most partners at a 1:1 ratio)?

Just think about all of the options and make the decision that feels right for you. Just remember, you might night get a chance to get this current bonus for the card in the future. Hopefully this helps. Good luck! 🕺🏾

Re: Amex Platinum

Likely won't be a HP for an existing member pre-approval.  Can't see why you wouldn't just get the Platinum as a new card, so you get the bonus.  Seems like a HUGE waste to give up ever getting a bonus on the Platinum just to PC.  Obviously, if you can't hit the bonus, that's another story.
