Amex Preapproval Check

Just out of curiousity.. If you "apply with no affect on your credit" as a current Amex cardholder and are not approved, does that reset when you can apply again in the future?

Or can you keep checking via the application process until you ARE approved without having to wait 90 days like if you were denied in the past?

You can check every day if you like... You should also keep in mind that if you're already an Amex card holder, the SP they pull will likely be older data by 1 to 2 months in the past.

Re: Amex Preapproval Check

Thank you for this! I was confused because I AM a current Amex Delta card member. I wasn't sure if it was really a "preapproval" tool, or if it would allow you to know if you're approved without affecting your credit score. (Aka it's still an application)

I've been waiting for my only old collection to fall off my report (as of the end of Jan) before applying, thinking it would help my chances.

Others have mentioned that a 670 credit score (hopefully will be 700+ after this old baddie falls off) and 4 years of good history with Amex would probably be enough to be approved for the Platinum card.

I've seen plenty of people with high 600 scores get approved so I don't think you'll have a problem there, especially being you have a positve relationship with them already. However, waiting for the derogatory to come off your reports and the score boost you'll likely get would be the smart move.

Re: Amex Preapproval Check

Would anyone be able to post a screenshot of what a "Preapproval" looks like when you're already an Amex customer?

The message I get when I go to the application is "Know if you're approved for this card with no impact to your credit score", but that's before I click on the "Agree and Submit" button to see if I'm approved/want to accept.

Does the Preapproval usually show up BEFORE you click on the "Agree and Submit", or afterwards?
