Hi Everyone!
I want to add the Amex Platinum Card to my wallet, as I travel a lot for work and think the access to the Centurion Lounges would more than be worth the $695 annual fee. My question is - for those of you that were approved for it, where was your credit score at time of approval?
I'm at a 670 credit score, with my only baddie falling off my report at the end of January, which I hope will increase my score to above 700, or just around it. Also, as of Feb. 2024, I'll have a proven track record with Amex Delta for 4 years. I've never missed a payment, used HEAVY spend on my account, though I haven't paid off the balance every month.
When I login to the credit card page, I do get a message that says "You May Qualify to Open the American Express Gold Card", and when I click the "Apply Now" button for the Platinum card, I see the message "Know if you're approved for this Card with no impact to your credit score". I know in the past if it said "Expand your membership.." that would mean you're not preapproved. Does the above mean the same, or is there a better chance that I could be preapproved?
Score if fine fine a platinum especially since you have an existing relationship with AMEX and also with existing relationship it is 99% a SP if you have a card open with them. AF > Fico for that card as they can stop you at 2k spend or whatever they deem safe with you. If you think that card will fit you I would be shocked if you were declined and won't hurt you if you are since already an AMEX card holder.
I concur, since you have 4 years of good history with one of their revolvers I'd also be very surprised if you weren't approved.
Also others have reported being approved for Plat with scores in upper 600s, so it's not uncommon.
agree with above, just apply, do look for a 150k point offer though, don't take an 80k points offer, leaving points on the table

Thank you for the reminder to wait until the points bonus is better! I didn't even think about that.
One other question - since the Platinum card is a charge card, and doesn't have a preset spending limit, how do you know how much they'll allow you to spend? Is there a way to check the max approved amount of spend on the app, or can you call and check with a customer service rep?

Thank you for the notes! Now you have my fingers itching to apply, with the idea that I have pretty good approval odds with my current credit score. ![]()
I'm going to make myself wait until after my only baddie falls off, as I think that should make my approval pretty much solidified.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what does "AF" stand for? You had mentioned AF>Fico?

AF= Annual fee.
also limit although NPSL certainly has a limit and will change with your spending habit and what they know about it and in theory should get better each month.. Might initially be say 2k they are comfortable with then could be 20k or whatever in future if income/etc and spend habit and payment history justify it.
680 with 4yr old unpaid $45k auto loan charge off, approved for platinum with $5k POT
6 months later I was approved for gold with same profile, 720 score, $20k POT on gold

If your score is in the neighborhood of 700, I believe you'll be approved. Mine was in the high 600's when I got an Amex Business Platinum.
