Amex Prequalify Reliability

I recently used the AmEx prequalify link and to my surprise it was showing 3 offers, the Delta Gold Skymiles, Blue Cash Preferred, and Platinum Card.

I find this hard to believe with my FICO 08 scores being 644-647 across different bureaus. Is AmEx just promoting their cards or is the prequalify pretty reliable?

Re: Amex Prequalify Reliability

welcome to the forum...from i've read in the past, they sometimes are not reliable.  You could enter info with a wrong SSN and still will give you offers.  Cap1 seems to be so far the one "i know" actually is acurate.

Sorry i cant be of anymore help.

Eh, you have to be thinking of another preapproval like Discover.  American Express is generally very reliable though like any of them you still can be declined despite the preapproval.  That's true for Cap One as well.

Well that's encouraging. Generally speaking, would the Gold Delta Skymiles be the easier one to be approved for?

Edit: One thing I have noticed is that the offers are higher than if I look up those same cards in an incognito window (50K bonus miles and $250 bonus, as opposed to 35K miles and $150 bonus).

Well the Delta card is generally considered to be the easiest of the Amex cards to get approved for.  What a lot of people do is apply for a charge card and then revolver back to back and most often that results in only one HP.

Whatevef bonus program you apply under make sure you take a screenshot of the page.  Helps if there ever is any disputes.

Re: Amex Prequalify Reliability

My husband was prequalified for all the charge cards but when he actually applied, he was denied. His score was 643 on Experian.

Did he have customized offers that varied from the advertised offers?

Re: Amex Prequalify Reliability

i was not prequalified with amex. However on credit karma they showed my odds as very good. scores were 20-30 points lower i believe.

The prg offer is a great one, google amex prg 50k from a private window...open up another window, check cardmatch and amex and see what bonus offers they will give you on the ED.  If you do have some time, you could continue checking the prequal over the coming weeks. They could begin mailing you more and more offers with different bonuses.  Have seen up to 25k MR points after 2k spend in 90 days.  1 credit inquiry, and you could potentially get 75k mr points and $200 in airline gift cards after 3k spend. that is a slick deal!!!!!!!! do the delta gold and the PRG. Just be aware one must be paid every statement, and the other charges interest right away....

Re: Amex Prequalify Reliability

I've never had any luck with pre-qualification on cards, however earlier in the summer, I was prequalified on THREE count them THREE different sites -

Chase (for the Freedom and something else I don't remember)

Cap One  (for the Venture, Venture One)

Amex (for one of the everyday cards and two charge cards)

I was so excited, I applied for the Amex as I've applied twice before and always got shot down. DENIED!

Then, I applied for the Chase Freedom and Cap One Venture and was approved for both.

So I, for one had no luck with the Amex pre-qualification site.
