Amex - When Does the Fico Score Update?

Just curious - does anyone know when Amex updates the Fico Score info for CLIs? I recently tried to get one, and it pulled a score that was over a month old.

Do they tend to update their Fico info in line with statement ending dates?

Re: Amex - When Does the Fico Score Update?

@JenW83 No, I don't think Amex updates scores along with statement closing dates. In helping DW a couple of years back in procuring a CLI on her personal Delta Plat, they did not update her credit scores for 3 months until theirs matched what we were getting in myFico.  This was beyond stressful, to say the least, but well, well worth the seemingly endless hoop-jumping to grow her credit line from $1000 to $30000 since 2021.

I could use your help! I have the dreaded $1k SL with my Delta Platinum, and I've had my card for almost 4 years. I haven't been successful at getting a CLI yet, and I've NEVER been late, made heavy use of my card. It's really sad. 🥺

I know they gave me a chance when I was still rebuilding, but I've never struggled to get a CLI like I do with Amex.

Have you attempted to get a cli since it's a sp? Any baddies on your report? If you have asked and denied, what were the reasons listed for denial?

Yes - I have asked in the past, and I have always been denied because of my FICO score.  I had some baddies on my report from several years ago (I was laid off a job and got behind on some of my bills in 2017).  The last baddie is about to fall off at the end of this month.  It's already been removed from my TransUnion and Equifax, just waiting for Experian to update.  My FICO 8 is 670 right now, but hopefully will go up to above 700, or just around there after this old collection falls off.

I haven't had a late payment in 6 years on any account, but I do have some late payments from 2017 still reporting from the time I was out of work.  I think they're scheduled to be off my report by March of this year, so I know that will boost my score as well.

It's disappointing that I wouldn't receive even a small increase to my credit line ($500-$1000), as I have never been late, and put about $4-6k spend on the card a month, and pay down the balance.  I haven't always paid off the balance each month, so I think I'm going to try and do that for 3-6 months and see if that changes anything, along with the increased FICO score.

I think you just outlined all the reasons it's been hard for you to get a CLI. \

For DW, with a $1000 CL, they just let her in the door, and her scores were around 690-700 with no baddies but a lot of debt. During the time we started to request CLIs, we had paid off all credit card debt with her scores reflecting that jumping from 820-850; however, Amex kept saying their records had her scores at 690s. We continued to call and escalate the issue of their current data. We even said we would allow them to do a HP, but every agent along with supervisors stated the system would not allow them to perform a HP, so we waited. We waited til after 3 months of me calling, off and on every other week, for their scores to reflect her higher scores. After that, the CLIs started being approved, mostly without issue. The are some data points that find if you have one of the Amex cards that offers you a FICO score, that Experian score will, more often than not, match Amex's credit score they have for you. She may have had that with her Delta Platinum card, and if she did, we did not notice the feature at the time

I don't disagree that what happened 6-7 years ago is still affecting me now, unfortunately. But I would have hoped that my good relationship with Amex would have held more weight. I've NEVER been late, and I put decent spend on/make decent use of the card. I would have thought that would have a little more impact than it apparently does.

Being that you are so close to the age of these items falling off, I'd be reaching out to the bureaus and attempting an early exclusion. It's only a phone call

I would try every month until success. Keep in mind, while every profile is different, some of the items can still carry a 30+ point penalty till the day the last are removed. It never hurts to try. And if you have tried before, try again each month.

It serves us a purpose actually. When our reports are clean, we think back to the struggle it was to get there.

Many have posted that amex usually goes off old reports. So it may take a bit, once removed, for amex to detect the difference.

Your on your way. I sincerely wish you the best. Enjoy your new score when your reports are clean. It's a great feeling. Do try for an early exclusion.

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I checked my Experian credit score/report today, and see that the collection was removed. Unfortunately it only improved my score by +8 points.

It's definitely been a long several years to try and clean up what 2017 did to my credit score. It's nice to be back in the "good" category, but I'm ready to be in "excellent".

One more year of on time payments, with the addition of those old late payments falling of and I think I'll finally be in the mid to upper 700's. 🙏🏻
