Hi All,
I carried an Amex Delta card for a few years before closing it in 2015 because I knew I wouldn't travel last year and don't want to pay the annual fee. I also did not have a need for any of their other cards so chose not to PC at the time.
I am an authorized cardholder on my grandpa's platinum card which is great and does require an annual fee.
I am thinking of getting back into the Amex game and on their radar for real by apping for the green card. I'll probably stay on gramp's card just because it's useful for family purchases and other sorts of similar things. I don't really gravitate to any of their no-fee cards and love the NPSL as I can usually pop on a massive charge and pay it off right away. It's crazy how their internal scoring comes to trust the client, and that is what draws me to them.
So to the question: Does Amex still backdate? I know that in 11' they quit backdating AU's but I have a weird situation on my hands where I could potentially get backdated to my delta days (12'). I know it matters more for internal scoring but I am curious.
PS i just did an app spree before my new mortgage hits, so thats why i am considering this change
No backdating is dead with Amex
No more backdating with AMEX. But, if you closed the card in 2015 and I assume it was paid off, it should stay in your report for 10 yrs and shouldn't affect your AAoA. The only thing I see beneficial with backdating is improving your length of credit and AAoA. If you apply yourself for a card with AMEX now, it will show MEMBER SINCE XX date you first obtained the Delta card. Your credit report should still include the closed Delta card in calculating your AAoA.
My first AMEX was in 1996, closed them in 2004. I had no credit cards for 10 yrs (2004-2015) when i filed Ch 13. My length of credit history was 0 when I got my first card in 2015. My credit history from AMEX, Citibank, Discover and MBNA all fell off after 10 yrs.
I dont know i was approved for amex BCE a few weeks ago and it says member since 06 or am i misunderstanding the question?

It is only cosmetic and not real backdating that is reported to the the CRA's. When I upgraded my PRG that I took out in '16 to Platinum my new card came with a member since "87" date.
Yeah, too bad they killed the backdating, the "Member since xx" is only to impress dinner guests in a restaurant when you whip it out. The card, the card!
I was approved for my first ever Amex card, the BCE in late April. I was shocked & confused when it came in the mail and the card said "Member since 78". In 1978 I was 17 years old and working on a cattle ranch in Colorado, I'm pretty sure I did leave home without it in my saddle bag.
