Amex decline, in progress then declined again

Have learned alot by reading posts here. They range from credit crazed to fico gurus.

Anyway, have been re establishing credit the past 18 mos. I realize credit cards can be a plus with the rewards & $ backs  & when used wisely so instead of flipping off the credit bureaus I went to work on it. Correcting mistakes & even using our Attorney Gen's consumer office to help with a  bully Coll Agency.

I have no debt, 2 old collections that will fall off in a few months and raised my score over 100 pts. Alot of work but it was worth it.

I have Cap1 QS and recently added Cap1 Plat. & Barclays MC. Declined for Discover & Amex blu everyday. Not interested in Discover, I think of the '80's when I think of them, but that's just me.

Am determined to get the Amex, however.  I have no problem being persistant so after the decline I called recon., emailed & sent 2 letters. They re evaluated for a long time but declined it again yesterday. The reps I talked to today ( in the US ) were really nice. Told me to try again in about 3 months, they prefer a fico of 700 and up, mine is 670.

Since I've had 3 HP's  recently  I'm wondering how to apply for the amex green & blue everyday at the same time resulting in 1 inq, if possible.

TU-710  EQ-702  EX 693

Do you think many here are credit obsessed?

Just  read about a guy in the Guiness Book of Records who has over a thousand CC's with 1.7 million in CL and perfect credit!

Holy crap @ world record guy. And here I thought Ron1 with his 130+ cards and $500k+ in credit had a lot of cards and credit lol. Anyway, sorry about the denial, but Amex isn't known to recon. I'd recommend letting your inquiries age and your EX score grow for 6 months and then you should be a shoo-in for any Amex card.

Re: Amex decline, in progress then declined again

It maybe the collections that are the reason for decline. If you travel on Delta, you may want to try that card. Anecdotal evidence suggests that it is the easiest card to get from AMEX. There are usually very generous signup bonus. I would ask you to consider it only if you will use the card. Getting a card just so you have it is not wise; just my opinion.

By the way, I love my Discover. Besides the rewards and incredible redemption opportunities, I have yet to find better customer service. They also appear to be very technology friendly company. Smiley Happy

Delta is deffinetly the easiest to get in with Amex.. Doubt it is the collection as when I got in with Amex I had many collections before I PFD on them all, obviously now I ahve 4 Amex cards and a score on EXP around 710, first card was obtained around 660ish EXP for the Delta 1k meh, 2nd card Amex ED was obtained 1 month later 10k  CL with score of Exp 665.  So not sure what they aren't liking about your profile.  If you want your foot in the door with them I would suggest the Delta gold.  Otherwise wait for the CO's to fall off soon then go for them for the BCE or whatever you want and you shouldn't have an issue.  Once you are in and proven yourself with them any other card with them is cake.

Thanks for  the replies\input, I appreciate it. Am thinking the collections may have been the reason-although they are old. My  resurrected credit is still fairly 'young' that's another factor.

I may try getting the Delta instead. Re: Discover; I app'd for it since CK told me my approval odds were ' very good', should have known better and when I called their recon line I got the snottiest guy\rep. I won't re-app  with them.

As for the guy with 1.7 mil  in credit & over a thousand cards; that would be a full time job, no thanks. The theories on why someone would want to be a 'credit card millionaire' are endless.

Re: Amex decline, in progress then declined again

Just to add some data points, my BCP/Green card were approved with a EX of 695.  I only got $1k SL on the BCP, and I've been denied twice for CLIs, but I got my foot back in the door.  I also have two six year old COs, and 15 years ago I had a BK7 with an Amex card included (this was the reason they used to deny my first CLI request... they forget nothing.)

I got both my cards with one HP; it's "usual" but not promised, though.  You can app for a charge and credit in the same day with no problem, but you can not app for two credit products (or two charge products) in the same day without manual intervention on the second app (which creates a second HP a few days later, defeating the purpose of two apps in one day).

Hang in there, and good luck!
