When I got approved for my Palntinum Card, my Ex was like 630. I had zero credit card debit. About $45k in available. I have income a little above $300k. The low credit score was due to medical bills.
Even now that my score is 710, I have had Amex for about a year, spend $5 to $15k a month (a lot of work charges) Amex has denyed me for a credit card. I applied and was approved for a Gold PR. So I gave the Plantinum & Gold.
I tried the prequal this evening and the first two cards (Everyday and BCE) only came up for me; I applied for the BCE and was approved with a $1K SL. Not quite sure who they pulled yet (Southern California) but from what I've read if it is Experian my score according to MyFico was only 638 if you can believe that; a miracle in itself!
Yeah AMEX has been approving lower scores since the loss of COSTCO. I still cant get in with AMEX so be happy you made the cut.
I think you are right, but I think Amex is now being accepted at Sam's Club
I was approved with a low 600 score as well (about a year ago) I think they more look at your income, your debit and of course your credit score, but I think that look at charge different than credit
