Amex question

Has anyone ever seen this and been able to get back in with them? I had 2 pre approvals 1 delta gold and the gold charge card recently (still do) decided to see what would happen
Same answer for both pre approvals below.

Dear Addicted,
Thank you for applying for the American Express Gold Card. We value your membership and appreciate your interest in another American Express Card. We're writing to let you know we cannot approve your application at this time because American Express cancelled your previous account(s).

If you have any questions, please call 1-866-929-xxxx or write to us at the address above. You may qualify for a new Card in the future and are welcome to submit an application at a later date. You can also learn more about managing your credit at xxxx

Everything was canceled in 2012 and nothing was paid, I was left in a bad place and had to decide if I was going to eat or pay for the sins of my ex.

Re: Amex question

Was it an automatic denial with no HP? If so, you're blacklisted, but plenty of people have come back, including myself.

Yep auto denial with a SP, I wonder how long before they will let me back in if ever. I’m sure it’s a YMMV situation...

Re: Amex question

They may let you back in eventually but it could be a very long time (possibly 15-20 years), but paying back the outstanding debt can (no guarantee) accelerate that timeframe quite a bit.

Sorry about this denial. I had a lot of cards with Amex like 20 years ago, and I messed up on them. I paid them off eventually though. I always got declined for years trying to get back to Amex. Then I stopped trying for many years.

Finally, 6 months ago I applied for the AMEX GOLD CARD, and also the AMEX CASH MAGNET, and I was approved for both.  Now, just today I got an approved on the AMEX PLATINUM CARD.

You can certainly get back in their good graces eventually, but as the other member mentioned, you need to payoff the old debts first if you want any hope of accelerating to process some. Even then, it will take some time. They don't forget.

Re: Amex question

That’s what I was thinking too, I just have no idea what the amount is and I’m not 100% sure I want to poke them too hard and have it possibly reporting again.

You're beyond the SOL for the debt already.  Call them and ask them about Optima or PIF to get back in.  No harm in asking to figure out what exaclty they're looking for in repayment.  If they weren't IIB then there's a way to redemption.

Hi there, I was in a similar situation but this was because of my own wrong doing and going crazy with the cards a few years ago. I burned them about 3 years ago for about $14K+, ended up settling for about $9K paid within a year. Since paying off all my settled accounts through NDS, I went into hardcore rebuilding. Started with Capital One secured, to some store cards then to Discover and Barclays.

I would always apply to AMEX and they would deny without HP, so I was blacklisted of course. But I heard you can try to be added as an AU on another users card. So I had my GF added me as an AU on her card. 6 months later, I had a pre-qualified offer for the Delta Gold Skymiles. App'd last week and got the 14 day message but today, I got a nice welcome email from American Express with an approval for the card. This is definitely a YMMV situation. But I think with some serious rebuilding you can back in in lesser time. I am still shocked that I am back in after only about 3 years, not even 3 full years. But my I am above 700s in all my FICO scores, quite a few inqs but less than 10% util across all my accounts. Hope this helps! See you on the other side.

Re: Amex question

I was left so broke (another long story for another time as I’m still butt hurt about it) I couldn’t afford bankruptcy so that wouldn’t be an issue.

I don't think you're without luck. But if your file is not clean, you will want to clean it up. I don't think it could have been much worse that my situation. Think - maxing out all my cards, from AMEX, Citi, Chase, all CL's were over $10,000 to pay for a car which sent my about $45,000 into debt. And that is not including my student loans. But like I said, some serious cleaning up was done - by any means, get that second job if you can. It's a tough start but will only get easier as you get to the main goal. Suffice to say I am completely debt free today - I look back at it as a SUPER big learning experience.
