I not happy with message that I got after filling out the application, we are sorry we can not apporve you for Amex credit card at this time You may be pre approved for Credit one Amex card and it had link to credit one. How far has amex fallen to associate with operation like that. At one time if you had amex card you wher at top of your game. Evem chase has me all ready approved for all ther cards. May be Amex will approve me in the next life time.

It's hard to believe they could turn you down with credentials like that. I would recon. Seems like a mistake to me.
did you actually apply or just use the pre-qualification tool?
I actually applied no hard pull, no I can't recon amex's does not need to approve me for card once you burn and not paid them back they will take you back. If you file Bk then you have chance to get back in with them. They do not charge off ther accounts they will hold them to the dogs come home for ever the only I may get back with them is to pay off about 25K not worth it to me. I burnt chase for about 80K and they have all ready approved for of ther cards.

I remember reading this before where they don't sell thier bad accounts. I burned them and Chase back in early 2015 in a bk7. I just this year have been able to get back in with AMEX however Chase even with us banking with them and having our mortgage with them never show any prequals or interest in giving me a card. I burned Chase for around $10k and Amex for around $4k best i can recall.
American express got in trouble at one point by the CFPB for conditionally approving folks on debt that was past the SOL.. or for banning them because of past debt that was not legally collectable.
what I would do is complain to the CFPB because they are still doing the same thing it appears. Its interesting how double cycle billing was made illegal and now the card companies do triple cycle billing. Good luck! Basically, they're trying to collect on debt past the SOL.. that's what Id tell the CFPB if you file a complaint.

How they doing the same thing? They aren't trying to collect it. The are saying no thanks, but you can try credit one that is on our payment network if you want to have an AMEX brand of card? Creditors as OP mentioned have every right to turn a person down when they have never been made whole or burnt. I don't think I read they were asking to be paid back unless I missed that. Obviously if person wants to pay them back then they can and might get them back in with lender if important enough to person.

Was typing a response up in my head to lay out here but you beat me to it ^^
well, I guess we would need to know firefox's denial reason(s) by Amex.
If its related to debt that is NOT legally collectable, then they've already gotten in trouble for this practice by CFPB in the past, and if it is related, Firefix should report to CFPB.
First thing Amex is not trying to get me to pay them back, I think they have the right to say know they are not using credit report they are going ther on co data. Also I just called Amex's collection dept and found that the card was closed in 2019 for non payment that is wrong also they said I wasmember since 1999, that is wrong I opwn a green card back in 1984 got plat card in 1989. they have balance as 15,600.19. I may need to wate another 10 years before I get into Amex at thatpointI will be 74 years old.
