Hi all,
I dont wish to have too many cards but my main card if any would be the Amex Blue Cash Preffered for the 6% at supermarkets. I have never had an account with amex and my current scores average about 600 across all 3 credit agencies. What would be the best approach at getting approved for it? Should i at some point try for one of their other cards like the delta amex and try to build history with them first, or should i wait till my score is higher than apply? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
I got my Delta Gold with a 648 EX score. Not a week prior, I have 639 and they declined. I would app until you are in the 650s.

Baddies?
What's holding scores down?
List all TL's you have now?
No never ever settle for a card you can't use just to get in the door with a lender ....any lender it's a waste to you and your profile
Hold out for what you can use and prosper from and then go get it
You wont get in with a 600. I have been denied with a 712, first citing not enough experince with amex. I have put in the experience, and still nope. I tried with a 700, and a 690. Apparently they favor bankrupcies over chargeoffs, so if that is the reason your scores are low you have a better chance than I have.
I have no bankrupcies, have a couple of charge offs with citibank, chase and walmart. I have secured cards with cap one, fnbo, discover. and amazon store and walmart card. Also have a fingerhut account.

You're doing a great job thus far
Continue building good history while you work on CR's and before you know it scores will be higher
How long ago was your charge offs? are they paid off?
Charge offs are from about 5 to 7 years ago. I havent paid off since they will fall off report and i didnt want to restart the clock of them reporting. I was going to wait until they fell off to settle.
