Re: I understand the Capital One hate but there is a process to them

Calm down guys. Why get all the feathers ruffled over a credit card company. We're here to help each other out and be a team to help other's improve their credit just like we did when we were new back when. Not worth getting all riled up.

I'll just say in 2015-16 when I started rebuilding with Cap1. They were handing out CLI"s on request. Since 2017. Nada except 1 auto on my Venture for 1000. They have tightened up due to the rise in defaults as seen in the news.

Peace Out.

I love Cap One and they love me.  Smiley Happy

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

Re: I understand the Capital One hate but there is a process to them

@FireMedic1 I posted this thread about the experience I had and getting a CLI, I will disagree with you on the tightening of credit and it being shown on very good SL approvals with issues on credit profile to some. More power to them, I may be changing my mind on Cap1 for the better.

I would like to say I see a very clickish group of people in this forum that if you opinion is not with theirs, your opinions are wrong. No one is a credit expert in this forum and a lot of people have been helped, including myself from reading posts. If a thread is started by someone, that is their opinion and experience, period.

I am glad your view of Cap One is changing in the light of your recent CLI. I think we all expect in some respect to get rewarded for good credit management. With this card being your only one for a really long time, I can see where you'd have some emotional improvement when it comes to this subject.

I dont think you're seeing clique behavior here (though, it happens). When we post in public forum, we invite public to comment. They may not like the content of your post, and you may not like the content of their responses.

When as you said thread is started by someone to express their opinion, it's also an invitation for others to express theirs.

Again, it's a public forum. Take the good with the bad. As long as we stay courteous, there is plenty of room for every opinion.

I am glad you got your CLI and congrats on your recent approvals.

Re: I understand the Capital One hate but there is a process to them

IME, they have been a pretty good lender from any of their core products to PLCCs - by far a fairly large exposure next to Citi and Chase. This dates back before they absorbed Signet Bank. I didn't reach a $140K single tradeline with them overnight - granted through a series of CLIs and account combinations it was made possible, but thankfully no CLD (knock on wood)! 😉

Of course, that's not to say that they are perfect in every way, far from it. We have seen a lot of changes over the years as they've tightened some of the UW criteria, restricted account combinations, secured products no longer unsecuring and the list goes on. I've been fortunate enough to have witnessed over the past several years so many success stories, not only here, but outside of the forums for which Capital One has been a great stepping stone in building and rebuilding credit foundations for a variety of individuals who have been grateful to have been given that chance (or 2nd or 3rd) whether their products started as unsecured with a $200 SL or those who qualified for a secured product and countless are still paying it forward.

We all know that not every lender will work for everyone. When it isn't, it's time to evaluate things and decide whether it's time to part ways or assess different alternatives. I mean, if something is hated that bad, why continue the relationship? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@fenderguy It's all good. Remember Cap1 is run by a computer that the higher ups tell the system engineers and program engineers to operate in a certain way. CSR's can't over rule it's decisions. None of it is personal to an individual. It's Upper Management that makes the rules. And we the consumer and even in house Cap1 employees have to live with it.

We had this dicussion before thats your OP, I see Capital One handing out CLIs like candy to questionable accounts from the approvals I have seen on the board. I relied my experience and you dont understand it because you havent experienced it from Cap1 like I have.  And I would beg to differ on Discover since I just got approved with them.

Actually, I have experienced it from Cap One.  I only have 1 card with them from when I started my rebuild and all it saw was a pair of $500 CLIs over the course of 3 years.  The card saw usage in the hundreds monthly, maybe hitting $1000 a few times, but on average I would say usage landed in the 10%-30% range.  Based on that, I did not need a CLI.  Want one sure, but definitely not needed, so I completely get why they only were ever willing to throw me $500 and most of the time it was $0.  It only makes financial sense.

Sure, you'll find some Capital One CLI approval threads in that section of the forum, but you'll find equally as many or more threads from people (like yourself) that post about CO being "stingy" or difficult to get CLIs from.  It's not often that you see people that don't use their Capital One card at all posting about receiving CLIs, where you can find it all the time for lenders like Amex and Discover.  Since you just got a Discover account hopefully you'll have better luck with that.
