Any Success converting BOA Secured to 123 Rewards Secured?

Has anyone had any success converting a regular BOA secured card to a 123 Rewards secured card?

I don't think they would do tha, but it does not hurt to ask.  They will say if they can offer you the cash rewards 99/500 card.  It will be another hard pull for that though.

Ok thanks. Don't want to apply again and take another HP. I had to Recon the standard BOA secured card. I'll just keep what I have and count myself lucky I got back in with them.

I did change the regular secured to 123 cash rewards secured by chat. This was over a year ago.

Lately there are reports that chat doesn't work for it. I guess it all depends who answers the chat. You can try a couple of times by chat, if not call. You may need to call a couple of times. It is worth it. I was able to get more cash back than the AF so it was worth it. Good luck.

Thanks newhis very helpful information. I'll definitely try what you recommend. How long did you have the regular secured before you converted to 123 cash rewards just curious?

I did the chat before I got the card. As soon as I created my online account and saw that it was the regular secured and not the cash secured like my DW got one month before.

I converted my secured to 123 cash secured in the last couple months by calling the backdoor number listed in the backdoor numbers thread.

It took about a week or so after activation for the change to take place, then another week or two to get the cash rewards card.

Thanks gibeon that's good to know. I'm going to try the backdoor number and chat, hopefully one of them will workout for me.

Okay gibeon I called BOA and they said I would need to have atleast $500 on my current basic secured card. I only have $300. The CSR indicated I can add more money to mine but it would entail a HP. Was this the case for you or did you already have $500 on yours?

I only have $300.

I called them after they took the cash from my account, but before I got an "official approval."

From what I've read some folks have no issue, and some have to call in a couple times to get different CSRs.

When I called, I told them that "my friend" told me to ask for the rewards version of the secured card, because they (the CSRs) could switch it for me.

I did have BofA accounts (checking and savings in the past), but only had a Merrill Lynch account when I apped for the secured and switched to the Secured with Rewards. I did app directly for the secured card though.

I have not read anywhere before that someone would need a $500 minimum. That is news to me, and may very well be a new requirement.

I would try calling again and speaking with a different customer service rep.
