Will keep calling trying for different CSR. The one I spoke to didn't sound to confident. I have checking and savings with BOA and my mortgage. I apped directly for the secured card as well.

When I called, I told them that "my friend" told me to ask for the rewards version of the secured card, because they (the CSRs) could switch it for me.
I did have BofA accounts (checking and savings in the past), but only had a Merrill Lynch account when I apped for the secured and switched to the Secured with Rewards. I did app directly for the secured card though.
I have not read anywhere before that someone would need a $500 minimum. That is news to me, and may very well be a new requirement.
I would try calling again and speaking with a different customer service rep.
Big thanks for the advice gibeon! I had to try chat twice more and call twice more but got it done, my BOA secured 123 Cash Rewards card will arrive in 2 to 4 weeks. I had to call the EO (backdoor number) and have them transfer me back to the secured department. The friendly CSR took care of it no problem, she also gave me a different direct number just in case it might be useful to someone else in the future. It is 866-781-2215. Congrats. You will need to change the image in your sig.
Remember that any money that you put on the card to increase the limit will be HP. If you want to graduate early, HP also. They auto-graduate around 9-12 months. Then you can call to reduce the APR and remove AF, sometimes you need to contact them several times, as you already know
