Any harm to repeatedly hitting Luv button and getting denied?

So recently got a few Comenity Cards and a Walmart Card (end of January) and I've been compulsively hitting the luv buttons to no avail.  Of course, every time I get "THE LETTER" -- it has my information from when I applied back in January -- they haven't actually done another pull... and things have improved significantly since then.

Question I have is am I actually hurting my chances for getting CLIs soon rather than later by asking for them repeatedly?  I called Overstock at one point and she said that she could request the increase for me but if I had already been turned down via the automated system, I would just be doing myself more "harm"... is that really true?  Heck, they don't even appear to be doing SPs much less HPs so hard to see the "harm" unless every time you ask for Luv, they ding you on their internal scoring systems?

From what I've read, I could live without a "relationship" with Comenity -- but I really don't want to shoot myself in the foot with Synchrony -- I really want my Walmart to grow and have been using it, paying it off and multiple payments throughout the month but still nothing which makes me sad :-(

Thanks in advance for any help or advice for how to manage the efforts to get higher credit limits!

How new are your cards? It doesn't hurt to request CLI's from comenity or synchrony since CLI's are only a SP. I had to wait 4 statements to successfully get an increase on my walmart card too (one via luv button and again on chat).

Currently CLIs are SPs for both Comenity and Synchrony. As long as it's a SP (or a review of a SP) then there is no impact to the credit report. Whether they track this internally I don't know, but I would probably use some restraint and not apply unless there had been some time or other changes to the report that might warrant a CLI.

I do not advocate hitting the CLI button more than once in a month there are others here who hit it every day and I do not condone such behavior. IMO it shows the creditor you are desperate for credit and could possibly hinder getting a CLI. Im sure there are people who will disagree and thats fine too, there are no right or wrong answers everyone has an opinion.

Re: Any harm to repeatedly hitting Luv button and getting denied?

no sense in killing more trees.

just learn the CLI norm of your accounts

Walmart is every fourth statement

Comenity has some different approaches per card so you'll have to be specific on which you have

I suggest calling Credit Solutions right now and asking for CLI on the waly card and be done with it.

mine started at $150 and went to $2500 after 2nd statement with 660ish TU.

Was the jump on the 2nd statement with a SP or HP or auto?

Re: Any harm to repeatedly hitting Luv button and getting denied?

I got my Wally card the end of January and have had 2 statements cut -- about to have the 3rd.  I started with a 400 CL.  The day I got it, bought an iPad and nearly maxed it out -- paid over half off on the first statement.  Second month, bought some gas and that was about it but paid off the balance + another couple of payments (for gas fill-ups to get it back down to zero).  Last weekend, made a purchase that took me to about 50 percent and this weekend am back within 60 bucks of my limit.  I did an online chat and the guy said he couldn't help me -- so would a call to Credit Solutions be just more of the same?

Stories where folks get bumped after a couple of months and are what make me impatient -- but then I read about others who haven't gotten their 4th month CLI and worry that will be me...

In terms of the Comenity -- the one I'm most interested in growing is the Overstock card -- initial starting limit 500.00.  Again, have been putting a fair amount through, paying in full etc.  It was actually the chick from Overstock who was the one that said if you keep asking, it could hurt your chances which is why I wondered.  I knew I wasn't getting hard pulls --- or, as I said, even soft pulls based on the letters.  I would really love for the Overstock to convert to a Mastercard eventually which, again, is why I have been fairly aggressive with putting stuff through there.  I realize the Mastercard is a ways off but would at least like to be able to buy something without continually bumping up against the credit line.

Paypal Credit is the 3rd one that I've been also trying to get an increase out of -- but paypal sucks so don't really expect much out of them.

Thanks again for responding and sharing your thoughts and experiences!

Re: Any harm to repeatedly hitting Luv button and getting denied?

On Wally, you can call Credit Solutions (backdoor) the moment you have your card, or even before, lol.

I was approved for $500, called Credit Solutions and asked for $10k to match Discover. A few minutes later, and no additional HPs, Credit Solutions had increased the line to the $10k I'd asked for.

Comenity doesn't have that kind of system, IIRC.

log in to walmart's site and ask via chat - even easier than calling imo. i had a wally card for a year and a half, same old 250 cl. hit the button every month, nothing. chatted in one day, asked for 3000, approved in less than a minute. went back 2 weeks later, asked for 10k, they countered with 6k.

since then, similar results with lowe's -10k, banana republic at 6k, and tj maxx at 3500 my scores are between 680-700, so nothing extraordinary there

i don't even bother with synch's luv button any more

Re: Any harm to repeatedly hitting Luv button and getting denied?

I only hit once a month per card. Comenity loves to send out denial letters along with an email. I hate to see my mailbox full of those things.

Keep both your credit and your body in top shape!
