Any reason to get the Amex Delta Skymiles Platinum over the Gold or Blue if you don’t fly Delta?

DW has an offer for all three. 70k miles and 5k MQMS after 2k spend on the Platinum. 50k miles after 1k spend on the Gold. 10k miles after 500 spend on the Blue. Meeting the spending limits would not be a problem. Scores in the 630-660 range so this is a surprise prequalify for her. Other cards are a 1k Navy Fed Secured, 750 Cap1 Quicksilver 1, 1k Surge, and 1200 First Premier.

Seems like it would be a good idea for her to get the Amex just to get foot in the door even if we don't use Delta.

I was told you can go back into the cards selection and view all of them since there might be a chance of there being more than 3 offers. I dont know if its true though. If you dont fly delta or dont have plans on doing so you could redeem the points for a delta gift card or donate it (havent tried either of those yet). Outside of those and using them to pay for flights, it would just be a good card to get into the door with amex. There is a chance of your DW getting a $1k starting limit but depending on usage, payment history and other factors, she should be able to get a 3x CLI 61 days after approval, though people have mentioned that it is harder for $1k limits to get a CLI but DP are all over the place with that. Keep in mind, they do look at experian for their decisions.

I wouldn't get it if you don't fly Delta. Outside the ability to earn Skymiles, it really doesn't offer anything.

Instead, if she is prequaled for the Delta cards, then historically that means she prequals for all of the cobrand cards from Amex. Maybe you could make better use of a Hilton or Marriott card?

When she clicks all cards, she sees that she is also prequalifed for the Delta Skymiles Reserve Card (which has a free first class companion pass so its tempting)  but all the other cards just say "special offer," "limited time offer" or nothing at all as opposed to "prequalified offer." Is there a difference in these?

They aren't outright saying she is prequaled for the others but historical experiences say the cobrand cards are at one tier of accessibility. The charge cards are the next tier up, and the core revolvers are the highest tier. All cards in a tier are also seen as having equal underwriting standards.

Personal experience - I got my Delta Gold and Hilton Honors card within 45 minutes of each other with no prequal. Later I also got the Hilton Surpass with an almost identical score. Later, I got the Gold charge and BCP revolver four days apart. More recently, I had a prequal for the Green charge last month. I chose instead to app for Platinum and was approved instantly.

The experiences of myself and many others say that if she is preapproved for a cobrand card, she is equally qualified for all other cobranded cards.

Thank you, you were correct. Went for the Marriot Brilliant which comes with Platinum Elite and 125k sub and she got it with a 3100 limit!

Yup, over time we've learned anecdotally from forum members' experiences that being preapproved for any cobranded card means you're preapproved for any other cobrand the overwhelming majority of the time. Likewise with core revolvers - if you have a preapproval for EDP, but you'd prefer BCP or CM, go for it. The underwriting is the same. Essentially Amex is telling you "we approve you for cards in this tier". Pick what works best.

The reason I skipped from cobrand to core just above, jumping past the charge cards, is that it's possible there's a little divergence from this with charge cards. There may not be but I've seen a number of posts over the last couple years that indicate Platinum may be easier for some people to get than Gold. They aren't comparable cards in the way that Hilton base vs Surpass vs Aspire are, where each represents a higher status than the last with Hilton - the Plat vs Gold is not that way. They're quite different cards, with Plat being mainly travel and Gold being a powerful daily driver for everyday life. But it seems several members were able to get Platinum after denials for Gold if memory serves me right. I'm honestly not sure why unless it's the idea that Amex prefers one to pay a $550 AF rather than a $250 AF. This may be off base entirely but I felt it was worth mentioning since there have been posts about it here.

I've seen that too.  Great points on all above but particulary that one! ^^^  Maybe it's a pay to play to get your foot in the door with those.
