Navy fed - First time applying 24-48hr message

I joined navy fed maybe 3 weeks ago - after doing a lot of reading on these forums I decided to take a chance and app today for there AMEX more rewards card. It said I was pre qualified for all cards but I took that with a grain of salt.

Got the dreaded 24-48hr message witch for me in the past has always been a denial. Trying to stay optimistic and hoping for the best.

I currently have 10 cards - 6 are my own and 4 I'm an AU on. 1% overall utlization , 0 collections , 97% payment history , 0 inquires across the board , 5 years average age of credit. 701 Experian credit score. There is a Recent late from about a year ago with a comenity card I had.

Am hoping to be approved even with a low starting limit since I know I can grow it and the second card will be a good starting limit after 90 days. I guess we will see what happens. I've been holding off for a real long time on apping for any cards due to rebuilding my credit , and this recent late that I haven't had luck goodwilling. Figured I'd give it a shot though since I've seen others in worst positions have luck and don't want to hold myself back forever.

Do you guys normally see the 24-48hr from navy fed ending in a denial ? Is there a opportunity to recon?

Re: Navy fed - First time applying 24-48hr message

I've been a member of Navy Fed for 2 years.  The only time I've seen the 24-48 hrs wait was when I requested a CLI for one of my cards which was eventually granted. Perhaps, it's because your membership is new and they need to review your file further. From my experience, I opted for the rewards card as my first credit product with Navy Fed.  Amex Rewards was my second card and my third card was the Flagship. Navy likes to build a relationship with members before opening up the credit card flood gates.  Good luck and keep me posted

NFCU likes to manually review in my experience. Both of my cards went to manual review when I applied for them and all of my CLI requests have gone to review too. It's definitely not a reliable sign of a decline if you go to review.

It will probably be an approval at $1K.

I don't have a lot of NFCU experience, and I haven't gotten the 24-48hr message myself, but from DPs around the forums, it's not necessarily a bad thing. Often times it's just processing or verification.

Many times the 24-48 message is just a manual review. Does not necessarily mean a denial. Just got to let it play out. Good Luck!

Re: Navy fed - First time applying 24-48hr message

Thank you guys - hoping to hear something today. I've worked so hard on this rebuild and waited forever to app for a new card , especially because I wanted that late payment to fall off first but don't see that happening for a bit. I'm hoping I get lucky but if not it's not the end of the world I suppose just one inquiry on Transunion I now have.

@Anonymous Listen to those that say you have to let it ride out, see it through.  It's what I did.  My first card got 24-48 hour message, and I was approved a few days later.  My second card, I applied last Wednesday, got a call to verify it was me on Friday, and then was approved on Sunday (though they told me, when they called, it could be 3-5 days before I got the results).  It's just a manual review, but could definitely work in your favor.  Good luck!  And, keep us posted.

Did you hear anything?

I would guess it to be an approval based on those stats.

Re: Navy fed - First time applying 24-48hr message

UPDATE - I didn't get my hopes up but just a few minutes ago received an email from them saying I was APPROVED.

im more then excited. I was nervous the recent late payments would make them turn me away since there less then a year old but luckily they took a chance on me. AMEX MORE REWARDS CARD - 3k starting limit , 12.99% interest rate - this is my lowest interest rate yet out of all of my cards. Looking forward to building a great relationship with NFCU and hopefully hitting it big on 90 days when I app for my second card with them. I've seen many people get great limits when applying for there second card so hoping that will happen for me. Thanks for all the help guys - it's much appreciated !
