App Spree- A moderate Success from Bad Credit

Hey yall,

Im an off and on lurker but I have to say THANK YOU.

First off, in May when I was looking for my car, I racked up a lot of inquiries from the car dealer just trying to get a deal when I already walked in with financing. That was about 11 inq. From 1 inq to 11. **face palm**

Anyway, during the whole ordeal, they basically told me my credit sucked and I needed to do something. Thats where I found this gem of a site.

I learned about the shopping cart trick. Went crazy. Ended up with cards from Fingerhut, Victoria Secret, W&S, NY &Co, Forever 21, Loft, and J Crew.

The highest of those was W&S at $500.

Fast forward, I start to use my credit more wisely. Making it a point to pay on time(never knew the impacts of this). I am happy to say that its been a year since I have made any late payments.

In addition, my limit on Fingerhut went from 200 to $1100. My NY &Co went from 350 to 650.
I was able to get a card from Paypal and sign up for PayPal credit.

But then, I went crazy again. I got more credit cards (lol). My credit score went up 40 points and Discover showed as a match. So I said eff it.

THEY APPROVED ME FOR $7,000. This is my highest card. I am still in disbelief. I feel a big sense of pressure to not blow this and be an extra good customer.

I have two lousy cards from capital one. They never showed me love like this. My Plat has been at $400 for 2 years. They recently just upgraded me to QuickSilver. My Plat Secured is at 1300, $850 of which was my initial dp.

FYI, Capital One told me that they are not graduating cards not opened within the last 5 months. They changed their model. So older cards stay secured. Which is BS.

Anyway, I just want to thank this board. This is one of the best resources I have found on the internet.

Congrats on the success! The "pressure" is there only if you want to get better and achieve more with your credit. This would mean being disciplined as I'm sure you know. As long as you learn from past mistakes and keep pushing forward, it will get even better. And yes, these forums here are life savors for a lot of us. KEEP using the forums to your advantage!!!

Re: App Spree- A moderate Success from Bad Credit

Congratulations on your Discover card, @Anonymous. Smiley Happy

This is a great time to garden for a year. That allows you to maximize the year-end cashback match on your Discover card without other sign-up bonuses diluting it. In the meantime, your profile will have aged, and your inquiries will have become unscorable.

In the meantime, I'd hang onto your two Capital One cards so you can use them when Discover isn't accepted. The secure card isn't going to be a keeper, but it can fill a gap during your year of gardening. The Platinum card probably won't grow, but there's no harm in keeping it to anchor your AoOA (age of oldest account).

You might want to weed out a few of your store cards during the next year, particularly Fingerhut. With the addition of your Discover card, they're not as useful as they were previously. And your profile will probably have a better look once it's time to apply again.
