So first things first. Thank you guys and gals for the knowledge. I went from sub par scores last year , to almost above 700 on all 3 CBs. I paid off my baddies and just kept my util under 5%.
My wife and I closed on our first house about a month ago. Life is good. I felt it was the perfect time to get out of the rebuild tier and move up so I applied to Chase (CSP) <- goal card, Discover It, and Amex BCE.
Chase gave me the "unfortunately we can't..." 7-10 day message. I am honestly tempted to recon because the address I used is my new home and with this Covid lockdown I haven't been able to update residency. They didn't ask for address verification like discover or Amex did though so who knows.
Discover - instant approval with online address verification SL of $8500.
Amex - Update Approved SL $1000
BCE - Low SL but I'm in the door, plus I read Amex is a grower not a shower. (lol)
My current cards are 2 bucketed Capital One (Savor One $2500 and Venture One $3800). I will probably cancel them if I get the Amex. I appreciate Capital One taking a shot on me but I am bucketed with these cards and their age is still young enough where I won't take a big hit if any at all tbh.
Let me know what you all think.
Getting the CSP if you're approved for Amex and Disco at the same time is gonna be tough - they(Chase) aren't wild about multiple card approvals. It could happen though. And hopefully Amex ends up being a Yes.
I would hold off on closing anything right now. IIRC, your two CapOne cards are no-fee cards, correct? Just sit on them. Lots of screwiness in the world today (in general and in credit) and holding onto everything you can isn't a bad safety net to have until things calm down.

I've had wildly different experiences with Chase. IME it's definitely worth the recon attempt.
My first Chase card (Hyatt) was part of a 4 card spree and the SL was over 2x my next highest limit.
My second Chase card (CSP turned CSR) was part of a 5 card spree and was again 2x my next highest limit (Hyatt) at the lowest APR. My total exposure with Chase is $25.8k.
Chase can be touchy but if they like your profile the flood gates open and they are quite the joy to work with. If they don't then it's a different story.

If you already burned a hp why not? Good luck if you do.
Congrats on the other approval and good luck on Amex too and enjoy your new home! Exciting times for you and Dw.
Like @Anonymous replied, maybe wait a minute before closing those bucketed cards, it wouldn't hurt to let them sit idle while your cr's reflect all the new activity that's gonna hit here shortly.

I agree with you, especially on "if they like your profile". Anecdotally though it seems far wiser to be conservative with apping around a Chase application.

Anecdotally, especially around here, I agree with you as well. I just don't want OP, or future readers, to have ONLY the big bad wolf image of Chase. They can absolutely be touchy...or they could love your file, be a fantastic lender, and never warrant a moments worry.
Fair point and well received.
They'll probably be fine to recon because the Amex won't report for a couple of months so it will only look like one approval. But they'll probably also ask about the inquiries and whether they were approvals or not.
Not quite sure how $2500 and $3800 cards are bucketed? maybe ask the fine folk languishing with $300 and $600 limits i guess
