This doesn't sound so good, but I have no experience with Chase.
I applied for the Marriott card, Chase HP EX on May 12. Called into the 800 number several times in the past 2 weeks. Originally the message said we'll mail you a letter in 2 weeks. From what I've read, that was a good thing to hear, as opposed to the "7-10" message. So I waited.
A couple of days ago the message changed. Now it says "7-10 days." It's hard to see this as good news, but I have questions:
If I've been either approved or denied, when that happens does the message actually say so, or do I have to wait for a letter or even an email?
Is it possible that the system is dragging its feet, and now that the 14 days has arrived, they are pushing things out for a little while longer?
I have the feeling that the app didn't go well, but maybe there's a sliver of hope?
Thanks
14 days essentially means it was screened and passed to an underwriter for final review. While it's usually an approval when it reaches that step there are occasional denials and I have heard of a kick back from a 14 day status before because someone decided that further information really was needed.
Go ahead and call them during East Coast businss hours and ask them if there's anything they need to help process the application. Both the answer itself and how they say it may give you a clue as to your actual status.
Well, it was an interesting phone call. The app was kicked to anti-fraud, so they put me through. "Great," I thought. I answer a couple of questions, and I'll be swinging with Marriott soon. They asked the questions, satisfied themselves that I'm not a fraudster, then told me that they were denying for not enough accounts open for long enough (not enough history). I thought they might have seen my recent spree but apparently not. "Same time next year" then.
Thanks for your help!
Interesting progression indeed. Sorry about the denial though
I just got approved for the Lowes Synch card, and it was also paused by anti-fraud. That was resolved by texting me a code and my repeating it back. Not much to that. One of the questions from Chase btw was "you own a Mercury (something)..." A Mercury? Really? How many of those are around any more?
Let me say again how much I appreciate the mods and super-contributors that volunteer their time on this forum. I would not have thought to:
a. know that a 14 day letter is good, 7-10 is nicht so gut
b. recognize that something was afoot when the status changed
c. have a place to go to get an individual, and quick response
d. know its not the end of the world, even though its my first denial (except for the 1k Amex EDP CLI)
So thanks to everyone for participating. Twice over!
