Throwing this out for comment & suggestions, primary focus being to keep new accts and inq to a minimum, in preparation for a PenFed blitz after BK13 falls off Spring 2017.
Gardening has been quite fruitful, with great CLI's on both QS's after 4th statements and on Venture after 3rd (now a QS). Scores have increased nicely.
I should get credit steps CLI's this month (6th statements are today) for both QS's, and plan on combining them. I anticipate that all my scores will jump a few pts with the higher TL, but I'll be left with only two cards working, which is a problem. I'll want to add only one new acct, getting back to three working.
My first thought was to get Amazon because one hit on TU is no big deal and increasing CL is easy enough through CS. But, I'd rather have a bank card, so I'm considering going for Discover it instead. It's EX & EQ for my state, and even with a lower SL, the 5% cash back is very attractive, not to mention the matching cash back for the first year. And, Amazon is 5% for both the 3rd and 4th quarters.
Would it be more advantageous to have a $15k CL on Amazon for higher limit experience, or do banks/CU's (PenFed!) prefer to see non-store cards, even with lower CL's? Do I have a shot at Discover with BK showing?
Inq EX 6, TU 4, EQ 4
One IIB on EQ
Thanks in advance for your feedback!
I honestly don't know if Discover will have an issue with such an old BK showing, I wouldn't think so--it's worth a try. I have heard that they can pull any of the 3 bureaus, and sometimes double pull EX and EQ, but when I app'd they only pulled TU--I think it depends where you live.
Another option could be Amex or Barclay.
I had a BK13 and Discover wouldn't even look my way...at first it bothered me but now I'm longer over it and understand that it is what it is. As for PenFed, they had no problem giving me a Promise Visa with a very nice SL WITH my BK still showing. But YEMV...
