Re: Apple CLI Denied

Apple Card CLI approved from $8,500.00 -$11,500.00

I opened the card 8/29/2019. So I've had the card for exactly 5 months.  My Transunion Fico 8 score is currently @ 669. My Fico 9 @ 665. TU, EX, EQ are all frozen

(I like to let all of my cards report a maxed out balance at least once before I PIF. This way there is a history in my reports with a max used balance at whatever my limit is and then a $0 balance showing that I've paid it all off. This month I chose to report my maxed out regions card @ $5,500.00 and then appl went out and reported my maxed out apple card from November 3 days ago and my score dropped 68 pts. Both cards are now at a $0.00 balance and my score will rebound next month. I don't have any immediate credit needs so im focusing on strategy with each CC provider.. the near term fluctuations in my scores won't bother me)

The reason why I've posted this data point is because it doesnt seem like it mattered to them.. My history with them was the only thing they may have considered and not my current fico score when I asked for the increase. (Increase requested 1/27/2020, 3 days ago)

I've maxed out my Appl card every month for the past 5 months. I don't place many transactions on the card, I don't use up to my limit pay it down then use it up again.

I will normally max out my $8500.00 credit limit with 2 or 3 transactions, let it sit there all month and PIF 1-2 days before the statement cuts. I believed this would show them that their earnings potential is stuck at my limit.. they will not make more from swipe fees than my limit would allow.. and it seems at least this time it worked.

Good luckMy typical Credit card usageMy typical Credit card usage

Thanks for those data points.  Your observation about everything with GS being about your use of their existing credit line is spot-on with my previous posting about what I saw with other My Fico reports as well as my own use of the card.  I tried frequency of use (but not using up the majority of my CL) with PIF but they don't care about that.  To get a CLI, heavy use of a significant portion of CL is needed, either monthly or over the course of a few months' span.   So you did a good job giving them what they wanted.

Just curious but are all the large purchases for toys part of a business or just for personal use?  You must have really wanted the CLI to use the physical card at 1% CB instead of a 1.5% or 2.0% CB option? The 2% only on "Apple Pay" is something I find annoying about this card; Apple Pay is not universally-available.  It's like they're trying to get consumers to push for Apple Pay at retailers as a marketing push for them while taking only 1% where it's not accepted.  And that's one reason I would be reluctant to try again for an increase to my already relatively-high $20K CL.  Looking at their list of merchants, in most months I would never be able to get a significant amount of my spend to qualify for more than 1% CB.  The exceptions might be if I was buying Apple products, Electronics at Best Buy, airline tickets on JetBlue, or large purchases at Macy's or Kohl's, none of which I do very often, if ever.  All their other venders including fast food  or even grocery stores - most of which I never shop anyway - simply don't add up to enough spend to impress them  (For example: McDonald's, Baskin Robbins, Jersey Mike's, 7/11, Whole Foods, Walgreens, Chick-Fil-A, Dunkin', KFC, Pizza Hut, Petsmart, Albertson's, Sephora, SafeWay, etc.)

Re: Apple CLI Denied

I'm glad you asked Smiley Happy

I'm a travelling carnie.  Or rather carnival boss. I own concessions and operate at some of the largest fairs and festivals in the country.. So on a monthly basis, I can spend between $25k - $80k on toys alone.. The comapnies you see on my statement are two of my vendors that supply the toys to me. The problem with toys, is that they don't fit into any specifc category and my credit profile isn't strong enough to qualify for a 2% cashback card at this point.  My focus atm isn't really on building up points but building relationships with as many companies as I can. So I generally max out all of my cards every month and then throw everything on my Amex card until the shut the card down.. (Yes, I've come to anticipate up to 2 account shut downs every month at this point)

Having owned a cash based business for the past 13 years, I never realized the importance of having credit because I just paid for everything outright. Up until Aug 2019, I had one unsecured credit card with a $300.00 limit. So in the end, Im trying to catch up to a level that I should have been at some time ago and having a lot of fun btw.

I'm truly a prime example of ymmv .  My aggressive credit shananigans will work for me and my specific situation, but may not work for everyone else.

Anyway, I can actually talk all day lol so Ill stop here.

Ahhh ... that makes sense.  It's something like I thought it might be, but I was curious.  Thanks for sharing more.

Your situation is a little unique but like some other members who have posted.  And it's a great reminder to the community why comparing profiles against other members can be **VERY** misleading, because there are so many variables in credit profiles, lifestyles, spending patterns, and other factors.

Good luck in building your business!

Apple Card CLI Denial

Has anybody seen this yet? Sent in my request on feb 9th, got a 5-7 day message saying they'll send my results via email. Got the denial this morning. Only thing that's happened to my TU report as of late is a cli from Barclays (thanks for the HP Barclays 🙄)

Re: Apple Card CLI Denial

They're trying real hard not to give CLIs.

If you haven't been using a large portion of your limit, I would just write it off.

Re: Apple Card CLI Denial

That's the thing! I've been using it quite often (800/4500 for dec and jan). I will admit, I have been paying a decent amount off before statement posts so util isn't crazy so it posts at 200/300 for each month. I PIF for all my cards and I've got no baddies and tu just happens to have my highest number of hp, a whopping 4 inq. Overall util is between 4-5%

Re: Apple Card CLI Denial

How long have you had the card if I can ask?

I just got mine a month ago and I am considering asking for a credit limit increase because my credit score went up about 60 points but not sure if I should? Any opinions anyone?

Welcome to My Fico Forums!

Your first post and I had the honor of giving you your first Kudos.  Smiley Happy

If you look back earlier in this thread, you probably need to keep the card open for at least three to six months before asking for an increase.  Data points indicate that unless other factors have changed for the worse (more new accounts, lower score, etc.) the main factor for an increase is heavy use of your existing credit line.  It seems that it takes at least about 25% absolute minimum use over a few months to get a higher limit.  So, for example, let's say you have a limit already of $3000, you need to put at least $750 or more spend on the card over a few months and pay it off.  Higher spend of your limits is even better and may net you a bigger increase.

Yeah I am regretting getting mine when I did instead of waiting for my BK to fall off because now I'm gonna be stuck financing whatever they call the new extra large phone with 5G this year plus taxes and AppleCare on a $2500 limit so I can have an unlocked phone on installments. Not happy.
