Let me get this straight...approve with lates, COs, BK, deny for closed account?
GS is as prepared to issue CCs as I am to fly a spaceship.
There were even a few on reddit who were declined for closing cards themselves in the past year. I understand that one even less than I understand declining someone for having their card closed by a lender.
I haven't seen one where someone was denied for closing an account themselves since probably mid-September though so maybe they adjusted their algorithm to only look for ones closed by the lender and not the consumer. Still asinine but better than it was.

I've literally never heard that as a denial reason...sounds like a fake reason. I'd HUCA (hang up and call again) and ask a different CSR, and if they still give you a random reason, ask to speak to a supervisor. It's not a fake reason. There were multiple people who were denied for the same reason when the card first launched. Goldman is sensitive to accounts closed by credit grantor. They're the only creditor I'm aware of who is sensitive to that reason.
Hells bells, I got at least half dozen cards closed by lender for inactiity but all were perfect history. Guess I wont be apping for this card anytime soon

They even declined people for having bank accounts closed.
There has to be more to it that just an account closed by grantor.
My wife was approved for the Apple Card a while back for $40k and she has a card that is annotated closed by grantor.
My guess is that it was some sort of anti-churning measure gone wrong. It does seem like they have made adjustments since launch.
Appled card isnt churnable so that wouldnt be the reason IMO... Probably just a programming issues seeing that as a deragtory or something along those lines and hasnt been addressed.
Granted this isn't the end of the word, but I really don't get the reason. My wife, who has far worse credit history than I do (far more missed payments etc) got approved at a low APR, but for myself who has a better history overall gets denied. Seems like the machine learning mechanism that they use needs to do some more learning...
LOL....of all the reasons the could be declining credit.
I guess they're (GC) are new to the CC game, but they are costing themselves some potentially good credit risks.
I don't need an Apple Card, although it would be nice to have one as my PayPal MasterCard doesn't support the wallet. I check in once a month or so to see if they'll have me, but for the past few months they've wanted a Driver's License.
Today was the first time they didn't ask for one (I don't have a US license) so I got my free Fico 9 score of 719! WooHoo! Along with my denial for too much credit seeking behaviour. (If they think I'm bad on TU, they should see my Experian!)
I don't think you're missing out on anything. I see a lot of people closing their Apple card account.
