Hi all! I just applied and was denied for the student card and was wondering if there is any way I can get them to reconsider? I'm almost positive the reason I was denied is because of a delinquent collection on my report that I just paid off last month and have the paper work to prove it. Any suggestions please. My Equifax is only 606 and the other two scores are close behind within 10 points. If a no go for the Discover card is there any other cards you guys could suggest? My credit history is short as I got my first credit card through Capital One last May; and I don't want that to be my oldest line of credit because it's a secured card. I've made all of my payments on time and have never missed a payment and usually pay the balance off in full. Sorry for the lengthy post, I'm just trying to provide as much info as I can. Thanks for your time!
Edit: I almost forgot to mention that I have a second Capital One nonsecured card I was approved for in November.
I don't think now is the time for new credit for you. Try to reco. It doesn't hurt. But I would not apply for cards until you scores are above at least 680 which will take time. Best of luck!
Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it!
discover does not recon. Also, even if the collection is paid your credit will still be effected. The only way your score will improve is if they remove it from your report completely or by letting time go by which could take years. I would consider into looking for a secured card your going to find it very hard to get an unsecured card right now.
welcome to the forums. try recon, but I've read discover isn't too good with them. if that doesn't do it, don't app for more credit and wait for your scores to go past the ~660s. never miss payments. good luck.

Not totally true, I just did my first ever recon on them and got $1500.

wow i am shocked congrats though. Was it more of a recon or verification? Im suprised they did now offer a secured card or joint app
If you are looking for more student cards, the Citi ThankYou Preferred is a pretty nice one to have. The CapitalOne Journey card is also fairly easy to get. It all depends on how they see that collection though.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'm probably going to do like others suggested and wait for my score to get higher before I apply again.
I was recently denied as well with the scores in my signature.
I have not seen the letter yet so I do not know what their reasoning was, but I took it as a sign that I need to do some gardening.
