OP if I was u I'll dispute the sh** out of that inquiry but directly with the lender as it'll be much more easier. I know with Chase it's like a walk in the park cos I done it before and they removed it no further questions asked. They even sent a confirmation letter to me. And on one rare occasion, I disputed a bunch of inquiry (car dealer unauthorized pull) over the fone and the rep simply asked the items I want deleted and while I was still on the call she got rid of them in one shot. At least 8 or 11 if I remember correctly. This was few years ago with Equifax or Experian and I know if I check my file cabinet I'll find the report they sent with results of the deleted inquiries. So if something doesn't seem right be proactive about getting it straightened. Because u authorized a pull doesn't mean they should go haywire pulling ur credit. It can absolutely be done cos I had first hand experience.
@taxi818 wrote:Depending on where you are looking it can be just a Phantom double pull. I have seen this before. when i thought they pulled the same bureau twice. When i went directly to experian to take a look i could clearly see it was only a single pull. You may want to do this before escalating. Some times the monitoring services just don't get it right.
This exactly OP. Depends on the source of where you're obtaining the information. Sometimes some CMS code things 2x (i.e. "phantom"). This happened with a Citi application earlier this year. I simply let things be for a few days then checked directly with EX and it ended up being only one HP (eventually CMS displayed 1 HP). Otherwise, you may need to escalate the issue in the event 2 HPs on the same CR (for the same app) occurred.
ETA: one item to consider - if your application was processing and timed out (or taking too long) and you clicked the back browser button and refreshed the application (i.e. resubmit again), the system may have processed the request 2x. Hopefully, this was not the case for you.
I haven't read this entire thread, so I don't know if the situation has been resolved.
Call Experian. Say that you have a question about your credit report. Explain that it is a duplicate credit pull. Don't dispute it. The inquiry will be gone by tomorrow.
It's a 5 minute phone call. This has worked many times. Experian doesn't want duplicate credit pulls on your report.
Be very nice and friendly to the CSR.
