Got a pre-qual letter in the mail with a pretty decent offer, 7k trade line with a 12.15% APR after the 12 month intro offer runs out.
Figure'd what the heck, I bank with them so sure, this might eventually come in handy.
Denied with the reason being:
"Not enough identifying information present to authorize a line of credit"
Wat. You literally have all the information on me you could ever want, extended me a pretty good prequal offer with very exact terms, and you deny me because you claim not to know me? I'm guessing they ran into problems pulling my credit report....very odd. Seeing as I bank with them I will message their support with my referral # and ask why exactly I was denied. mid 730's across the 3 CRA, about 30k in credit with $100 in utiliziation, a student loan that I've paid down from 20k to 8k in a month. Very young, no baddies whatsoever, 2 inqueries on my CR for EQ and 3 for TU. The only thing that really holds me back is my AAoA is super young.
Was wondering if anyone knew how to decipher that declined message?
I tried to apply for that same card on their website a few times, but it always came back with a technical error. Now I am kind of glad that my application never went through.
DId it throw an error that essentially says you were denied access to the website?
All around a bad experience. If they do a hard pull after having the site crash and then being told they can't really confirm who I am, I'll dispute it.
Just figure'd it would be convient to have a card with my bank, guess I'm a chump.
I app'ed for a card with BB&T at the beginning of my rebuild a couple years ago b/c I live in their service area with branches everywhere--and they put THREE inquires on my EQ and still turned me down for inexperience revolving credit and some old public collections on my CR. Even though my credit is much better now---never again will I app with them.
Lord have mercy if they do 3 hard pulls on a single CRA I will wreak some havoc at my local branch for sure.

Back before the credit crunch(2006) I was doing most of my banking with BB&T and at that time the bank manager had lending approval,I was able to get their Visa,MasterCard, and business Visa with them with no problem I even got a business line of credit as well,That I still have today and never have used,Fast foward today,They from what I heard are a very conservative lender now,About a year ago I've tried as well to get their spectum rewards visa and was asked to provide a complete financial statements with all the proof and tax returns as well,Even though I could have proven my income and assets,It seemed to much trouble just to get a another credit card with them
You are much better off not having any products from this institution. It's considered a 2nd tier bank based on size and assets but it's really a 3rd or 4th tiered bank based on products, processes, and the experience level of it's team members. Why someone would want to pay such high prices for mediocre services and systems is hard to believe. They are incapable of growing their business and must rely solely upon acquisitions to make money. They are an antiquated country bank that grew out of the tobacco fields of NC. You would be better served by the worst credit union in the nation than this backwater company.
When I was a student they offered me free checking + savings which lasted until I was 24. Seeing as I'm now 24, I'm paying $5 a month :/.
The only thing preventing me from transfering is that I believe I am black listed from BoA. I attempted to transfer their from BBT and BBT stopped payment in the middle of the $50 transfer to the new BoA account and BoA cut all contact with me and said I was a security risk because of a cancelled payment, and they refused to do any further business with me.
OP I'd probably be annoyed as well if they had sent me a preapproval with APR and CL stated and then denied the card. That said I do have the BB&T "Bright" version rather than the "Spectrum" since I prefer a lower APR over points I'll never use.
Other than a really outdated website that doesn't allow payment from an outside checking account (no idea why, I "push" payments from DCU to pay my card online), I like the card - it works and the APR is low(er) than most of my big name cards. It's not my primary go to card because of a lower CL, but it did offer 12 months of 00% APR which I used and I'll use it if I expect to carry a balance for a few months due to the 11.15% APR.
They are pretty strict. When I started rebuilding, I was going to apply for their secured card. Fortunately the branch manager told me it was only for those new to credit and those who were rebuilding with COs or CAs showing were usually denied. I was glad that she was upfront with me about it so that I did not waste an app.
