Hi all,
I applied for a Target card today and got the email that I would get a reply from them in 7-10 days. Does that usually mean I didn't qualify for the card? I got a secured cc from my credit union about 3 months ago with a 500.00 limit and have kept my utilization low with a credit score raised 50 point so I am at 591. I thought maybe since it is now at a fair score that I would have luck and qualify for a regular credit card. How long should I have waited to reapply for a card so my score doesn't take a big drop?
I worked at Target when I was in High School, so yea it's been a while. But when I was there it was either instant approval or denial. But like I said it's been some time and things definitely could have changed.
Could go either way.
Could be close to the line on approval/deny so someone is going to manually give it a peek.
Could be some of your info wasnt input right so it couldnt verify it was you.
Ive had 7-10 day messages turn into approvals and into denials. Since I dont have a card with target yet, I cant relate my credit report to yours to give you my opinion on whether or not youd be approved.
They like credit better than sub prime lenders.
I dread those 7-10 days letter replies. I hope in your case it leads to a positive outcome. If I were you, I would wait until all my scores are above 600 to start applying for unsecured credit. Be patient. Keep your util under 10% on the secured card. Also, can someone you trust add you as an AU to one of their TLs? You basically will inherit their credit history for that card (whether excellent or poor so it better be someone with excellent crefit). Piggybacking on someone else's credit is a really nice shortcut to getting better scores. Good luck and be patient!

I don't want to break your heart but that is a denial when it comes to Target. On the positive side, if it is the 5% discount you are seeking towards purchases then pick up the target prepaid redcard. You can put money on it and whenever you shop at target, it automatically gives you the 5% discount.
not sure I agree with those saying it is a denial........I was told that at the store when I applied but got a call later in the day. It was my very first app when I began my rebuilding.....started at 300 I think and it went up to a 1000.......now it lies in the SD @ 200 for nonuse. I would give them a call
Thanks for all of ya'lls help, I have learned so much on this site!!!! I had no idea I could do this. His credit score is 648 and we haven't tried to get a card in his name so that will be our next step to improving our credit scores.
I may be incorrect in assuming this, but I believe "Fair Credit" begins around 620 or so..
I got denied with a year's worth of history with a secured card. Anyways, if it is a denial, there are better cards for you to try to get but wait unitl at least 6 months of history (the more you wait with such a new profile the better).
