Applied in person @ CHASE

I  went into my local Chase branch today  and applied for the Chase freedom unlimited card.  After doing the application, the lady said OK you should get something in the mail within the next 7 to 10 days.   I asked her if it got declined? And she said no it doesn't give me an answer right away.  Does that seem normal? I assumed that if I went into the bank, it would've been an instant approval or denial. Kinda confused...

btw - my scores are TU 753 - Exp 755 - Equifax 748

they pulled Equifax. Thank you.

Re: Applied in person @ CHASE

My guess is a denial. It is possible to get an instant approval in branch. Your application may also require an additional review from the lending department. This is not performed by someone at the branch and usually they will tell you that you will receive something within thirty days.

As for a 7 to 10 notification that is usually a denial. It means they already have an answer and they are going to send it to you in writing (it is the law) and 7 to 10 gives the usps time to do their thing.

Most financial institutions will shy away from telling you that you are denied until you have the written denial. It is to protect them from saying the wrong thing and getting sued.

You mentioned your scores which is good, but how many new accounts have you opened within the last 24 months?

Re: Applied in person @ CHASE

Only 1 new card. Discover it ($2k CL)

I'm an AU on a Barclays card ($9500 CL - $395 balance)

I have 5 INQ in the past 2 years.

Why wouldn't they just tell me? I'm confused.

Btw - I was thinking denial as well. 😔

Re: Applied in person @ CHASE

Just got an email that says this:

We have received your request for a Chase credit card. We'll let you know our decision by U.S. mail. This could take up to 30 days.

Thank you for choosing Chase.

I guess it depends if the 5/24 rule includes all accounts or just revolvers.  If it's all accounts and you were approved for accounts with those 5 inquiries, it could mean you were at 5/24.  I'm no expert on this though.

Why wouldn't they tell you?  A member cited a good reason above as to why for legal reasons.

That is the standard email that Chase sends out after any applications that do not result in an instant approval.  Call the automated application status line at 800-436-7927.  It will give you one of 4 responses  1)  Approval, 2) Being reviewed and we will let you know in 30 days, 3) Being reviewed and we will let you know in 2 weeks and 4) Being reviewed and we will let you know in 7-10 days.

The 30 days and 2 weeks responses are generally considered good news and will result in an approval and the 7-10 days is considered a likely decline.  Of course, different conclusions arise from all 3 but those are based on user's experiences.  Check periodically because the response can change.  If it ends up being denied, you'l receive a letter with the reasons.  You have 30 days after your application to call Chase and talk to a CSR if it is declined and ask for a reconsideration.  Many people have had good luck doing so and occasionally it can take more than one call to get an approval.  Just be prepared to discuss the denial reasons and be ready to 'argue' your case.  If you don't want to wait util the letter arrives or the automated line gives you a positive outcome, you can always call and ask to speak to a representative now.  Call 888-270-2127 if you wan to go that route.

Good luck and I hope that you end up being approved.

Re: Applied in person @ CHASE

Called the # that Irish80 posted and got the "7-10 day..." response. :/

I'm not 5/24 so that's not the issue.

When I get the letter, I'm going to call and ask for a recon. Any advice? Thanks so much for your help. I've spent the past year getting my scores up and really want to do everything right, you guys rock.
