Apply for Amex?

Dont really know if I should apply or just continue gardening. My scores are around 630 across the board. Ive heard of some getting approved with that but alot of people have gotten declined. Was just recently approved for a walmart card, so I'm thinking my report is looking a little better.

Re: Apply for Amex?

I would just like to get in with AMEX. My files are pretty clean, just growing at the moment.

Re: Apply for Amex?

You can always try their prequal site.  A good place to start

Re: Apply for Amex?

Go to their pre-qualification site below and see what you get. Make sure it says 'pre-qualified' or 'pre-approved' with exact APR when it pops up.

I got approved few days ago. See my post. My fico 8 score was 666...they pulled Experian.

Re: Apply for Amex?

They have been approving applications with low scores but you may want to wait until you are in the 650-660 range first just to be safe.

Nothing showed up on the Amex pre-qualification site but I was approved for the Amex Hilton with an Experian score of 679 but my SCL was only $1k.

What's causing your 630 score? How many accounts do you have reporting? What's your AAoA? What's your util percentage? How many inquires do you have in your EX file? It's impossible to provide advice based on score alone.

Re: Apply for Amex?

I think the suggestion to try the pre-qual site is a good idea, but even more I like the thought to get the score up a bit higher, just to play it safe.

Captool's questions are also good, and would be major players in whether you got approved.

Re: Apply for Amex?

I atsrted in January cleaning everything up but the damage was done. I started at a 490 score so I've came a long way since then. I think I'll hold off for awhile and let everything grow, just to be on the safe side.
