Apply with frozen credit

Is it possible to apply for Amex with both equifax and transunion frozen?

Re: Apply with frozen credit

I've done it.  I had the Platinum and then applied for the BCP and got approved.

Re: Apply with frozen credit

It is not something strongly recommended nor often discussed to freeze your reports before applying for any CC.  All things being equal, I have read this working when applying for an Amex account but after such person already has atleast 1 off their charge or credit cards already.

Existing issuers, that you have an open account with, can still receive credit bureaus information when requested.  ✌

Re: Apply with frozen credit

Gentle reminder... due to FICO contractual obligations, we can't discuss freezing selective credit bureaus to avoid a HP from a lender.  This isn't my rule, this is from FICO legal.

Thanks for understanding,

Re: Apply with frozen credit

I have all bureaus frozen and app'd for the AmEx Gold recently. I figured there was a chance I'd be turned down, but that I could unfreeze if necessary. I did have a preapproval offer (I think) through the AmEx site and I could see my FICO scores on there, so figured they might use the SP they had for the application. The new card was approved without issue. This was a first for me, it wasn't something I was aware could be done.

Re: Apply with frozen credit

I had frozen the same two credit reports a couple of years ago due to some identity theft issues and left Experian open for a couple of unrelated reasons. When I applied to Amex some time later, my application went through (after some extra verification with a rep) just fine. It may have helped that in my part of the country Amex seems to have a preference for pulling Experian.
