Approval Odds for Citi Double Cash

So, I've been rebuilding/paying off debt during the last couple of years. 2016 - 2018 were years everything went haywire. What, if any, are the odds I can now get this card?

  • EQ 08 Fico: ?
  • EX 08 Fico: 644
  • TU 08 Fico: 628
  • AAOA: 11 years 7 months
  • Derogs: 2016 - 6 30-day, 1 60-day; 2017 - 9 30-day, 5 60-day, 4 90-day, 3 120-day, 3 CO; 2018 - 1 30-day; 8 120-day; 2019 - 1 30-day
  • Collections: 1 (from PRA but has been paid/settled & I anticipate will be PFD later this month)
  • Total Inquiries: 0
  • New Accounts in last 12 months: 0
  • Util: 88%
  • DTI: 31%

Last derog (30-day) was in April 2019. I'm guessing w/current scores I won't be approved. At what point would I have good approval odds? TIA.

At the risk or being pessimistic, if your experience is like mine, you would only be considered for a secured card.

my numbers were fairly similar and they wouldn't graduate me after 18 months of perfect use.  I still can't get anything else siti except for a 600-cL shell store card.

But maybe they just don't like me.

I see their prequal site appears to be down as well.

I think a combination of factors will keep you from being approved. Before Covid this generally seemed to be a card for a 700 score, and Citi has tightened up during this past year. Being a hair away from maxed out on your cards is almost always a sure fire app-killer, and the recency of derogs (two 30-lates and eight 120-lates since 2018, and a large number of them before that) will hurt your odds even more.

Citi is a picky lender and you have a lot working against you. Getting your utilization down under 9% could give you 60-70 points on its own, although the 120-lates are major score-killers and may flatten your gains. Concentrate on what you can - paying cards off, working on goodwill deletions of the lates - to bring your score up and strengthen your profile, and you'll have better chances. For now though I don't see it happening.

Citi took it down almost a year ago. No one knows if it's a Covid-era thing or they're just not interested in running pre-quals anymore.

Re: Approval Odds for Citi Double Cash

Honestly I would hold off on applying at the moment. It's not a super-hard-to-get card, but with your derogs and high utilization it may be a no-go.

Good luck!

Re: Approval Odds for Citi Double Cash

Thanks for the helpful responses. I hadn't really considered submitting GW letters for the deletions but will be working on those. As far as util, I anticipate being <15% by Christmas time.

And back to the garden I go.....

Excellent plan and it will pay off. Dropping utilization and trying to clean up the derogs is always worth the effort. It'll pave the way for great approvals in the future.

I would agree with some of the others here..... I think the collections account alone will get you a decline,   So I would wait for thay pay for delete to occur..... and see what happens.  You may see a substantial increase to your credit score at that time..... sit tight.... and you'll get there.
