This is wierd. I received an email from AMEX yesterday saying that I had an automatic CLI of $2000 on my Blue Cash Everyday card based on my excellent credit history. I got both cards a little over a year ago. The Delta was first and I received it a month prior to the BCE. Since the AMEX Delta caried about the same balance during the last year or so, I figured I can call in to request a CLI. In addition my scores are pretty decent with my lowest FICO score at 728. Anyway I called customer service but got denied for a CLI on the Delta and I'm uncertain as to why.
Just a bit more background info :
I have never missed a credit card payment before. I also do not have any delinquent accounts on my credit report. The one blemish on my repot is an old verizon account that has been paid off 4 years ago and I am just waiting for it to drop off.
Other than that I also have an average of about 11 inquiries on my reports most of which came from my purchase of an automobile in December of 2013 when the dealer sent out multiple quieries for the loan resulting in multiple inquiries on my credit report
I think only 1 card can get a CLI within a timeframe. Forum masters will follow up when they come on.

Automatic CLI doesn't count.
It is 6 months (180 days) from last requested/approved CLI and 3 months (90 days) from last denial to ask again. 1 request per person not per card, so choose the right card per request.
People get the 3X from the new limit (after automatic CLI) because their request time was a few days after the auto-CLI.
Hope this helps.
Ahh. That's probably why. I requested a CLI on the BCE in March after a year of ownership and got denied then too. I guess my timing is wrong with manual CLI requests then. Maybe this request will give them the impetus to do an automatic CLI 2 months from now? I have less than 18% usage on the Delta so I'll just sit, wait and see.
