BBVA Compass Clear Points UPDATE, approval 9 days later

Got a mailer, sat on it for a couple of weeks but finally thought "why not?!?" and submitted an app today.  I'm in OH, which is apparently outside their service area, but the app went to review, not a flat-out denial.  There was verbiage to the effect that I'd hear within 48 hours.  We shall see how it plays out.

We're reviewing your application, David.

Thank you for your application for a new BBVA Compass ClearPoints Credit Card. It's under review now, and we may need to request a few more details. If further information is needed, we'll contact you soon to discuss.

Re: BBVA Compass Clear Points

Same thing happened to me.  Got a pre-qual letter in the mail and applied, then said its under review.  Almost all BBVA apps do this and you will typically get an email in a day or two saying approved.  I got approved at $5800 with 16.99 APR and the email came at midnight of the day I apped.

I would call them and ask the status of it, they may or may not be able to tell you anything but its worth a shot.

Re: BBVA Compass Clear Points

I second maybe calling them because it has verification verbiage in there. If no dice, it sounds promising. I recently received a mailer from them too. Hopped on it because I wanted to drop Capital One's QS1 AF. They gave me 18.99% APR, 0% APR for 13 months, and $4,200 SL. Wasn't a bad deal at all compared to my QS1's $49 fee, 25.99% APR, and $750 SL.

Re: BBVA Compass Clear Points

The other posters piqued my curiosity so I called...put on hold for several minutes, the man came back on, said it's under review, they will likely call me today or tomorrow.  I got the sense to expect a call, not just a call if they have questions, which seemed odd, unless they are verifying my cell ph#.  The saga continues.

Often times, and depending on the lender, it's best to wait it out. Unless, after submitting the application a prompt or email generated to get in contact with them with a reference #. With BBVA, it's usually "we'll contact you".

Re: BBVA Compass Clear Points

I am reasonably sure I've never called behind an app before.  Not thrilled with the lack of resolution, good or bad, but such is life.

Re: BBVA Compass Clear Points

I mean, it's been less than 2 days since the application was submitted, no?

I could see if it had been 2 weeks without any type of communication. BBVA isn't really known for quick results. Often times, it really depends on the information they're verifying. You'll know soon enough I'm sure.

Re: BBVA Compass Clear Points

I also received the mailer and decided to apply on 07/11.  Using my laptop, I entered my reservation code and the result was "code invalid".  So, I tried on my phone and received the same result.  Deadline on the mailer was 08/18.  I called the next day to apply over the phone explaining that I was unable to apply online.  The csr had no trouble pulling up my reservation.  I spent 25 minutes on the phone and was told at the end I would receive a phone call within 1-2 business days.  Today marks ten days since my application and no phone call, no email, and no letter.  I checked my EX report and there is no inquiry from them.  I am content to just forget about it.

I hope you end up with a better result.

Re: BBVA Compass Clear Points

I suppose I'm so used to instant gratification that any sort of delay frustrates me.  I need to think back to the dark old days in the 80s when I would have to mail apps and wait for 30 days or more to see if an envelope with a card came back, or a decline letter.  I'm content to just sit back and let it play out at this point...
