VegasMom I am glad you got somewhere with your complaint.  However, I must ask -- why would anyone WANT this card after the nonsense this bank is clearly putting MANY people through?  Why go through the hassle of sending them all that info on yourself (not you VegasMom, the poster after you BlkCivic) for a card that shuts people down left and right, some even AFTER re-opening their accounts after a BBB complaint?  I am in no way saying you dont have your reasons for wanting the card, simply asking -- when I apped, it was mainly becuase I liked the LAKERS and live in LA and saw the BIG CLs given out -- then, read horror stories, whcih proved to bite me in the rump.

I guess all I can say here is be careful what you wish for people -- you have every right to go after whatever cards you want, but it pains me to see people continually going thorugh this with this very bizare banking institution.  .  The # of issues are astounding, especially revolving around shutdowns/identity closures/denials.  There are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better cards out there that will not give you this hassle -- just my 2 $$  Smiley Very Happy  But, best of luck no matter what you decide to do here..just tread carefully with BBVA!

I live within Compass Bank's footprint and for 10+ years had a checking account with them, and I can say that if my own personal experiences are an indicator, everything will go fine for the folks who are able to get past the initial 'landmines'.  Compass was once a bit smaller, and then they started buying other banks, and then they were eventually purchased and became a subsidiary of BBVA.

It's like I've mentioned on here before, they are too large to have the 'personal touch' they once had, and they are still too small to have large bank efficiency.  In other words, as long as everything goes the way it's supposed to, you'll be fine.  If you ever deviate from the 'norm', though, you might have a problem, as the "ID verification" issue has proven.  During my time with them I had a problem on a few occasions; things that would have been easily handled by a bank like Wells Fargo (where I now have an account) seemed to genuinely 'stump' them, but once you were able to finally get to the right person, it was OK.  (Note that I'm not referring to issues caused by my own doing, but actual bank errors.)

Their NBA credit card offering is generally a good deal for folks who are fans/enthusiasts, and while there have been issues (many detailed on here) I'm sure there are many folks who are pleased with them as well.  If I were into basketball I might even give it a look myself, since the APR seems to be nice for many folks, but I don't keep up with the sport and it would be a hassle to remember the various dates and occasions the rewards get multiplied.

Re: BBVA NBA Amex - Unable to Verify Identity

Good question... First and foremost, I am a HUGE Magic fan (my company has a suite, and I am probably at half of the home games). Second, I liked the APR, and was not aware of the nightmares when I apped for the card. Now, since I have already used the HP, I'll be damned if it's going to go to waste...LOL

Plus, now it's a personal thing - the unable to verify really pissed me off to be honest. - like I said, decline me for new accts., inquiries.....but not the reason they used. I'm also curious what the outcome will be, after they get my letter on Thursday!

Well I apped for the card.  Slam Dunk instant approval.  Got letter in the mail today account closed.  They never contacted me to verify any information.  Tried calling and getting more info all they could tell me was it was a fraudulent application.  I have owned and lived in the same house for 6 years, same phone number just as long.  Never once froze any reports and I have never had a fraudulent account opened in my name.  I have Myfico 3b and also Experians monitoring service.  Nothing fishy on my reports at all.  They transferred me to multiple people and no one could tell me anything or answer any questions.  I guess I will do the BBB and CFPB and try to get inquire removed and make sure account doesn't report.

Mine was a slam dunk as well SL 5.5K, 15.45% APR......Going on 3rd months and so far no issues, All my purchases have been approved online and offline.

The only thing I was really worried about was a payment method, which is sent by paper check only as far as I understand it (pushed through my CU)

My instant approval said $2000 and 9.49%.  I was surprised.  That would be my lowest limit.

Congrats, my SL was 5.5K, at 15.45%, I think the score was around 670. So far no issued with purchasing.

This reason is complete BS and I see they still giving it. If you do not receive a PIN card in the mail within a week. Submit a BBB complaint. Talking to someone on the phone is usless because they have no information and don't have the ability to do ANYTHING.

Be that as it may, no lender is "required" to approval you no mater what theirb reason - BBB complain really? I think a call to BBVA and just supply whatever they need which is probabvly just  DL or Utility bill or pay stub. Most credit unions require some for of ID to join, its not a big deal really.

Re: BBVA NBA Amex - Unable to Verify Identity

They didn't want or require any info. Just said it was a fraudulent application. Wouldnt let me do any verification. I did BBB because it was the only way to get answers.

I didn't really want the card after all this just my HP removed and account not reported to bureaus. They said it was a mistake and reinstated my card and also switched my HP to a SP. I haven't used it yet. Waiting for finals to use it and get my bonus.

+1

Now that they've taken all their card applications offline hopefully they will be able to 'fix' whatever is broken in their process.  I suspect they will eventually take apps over the computer again at some point, though, since they are a NBA credit card sponsor and I can't see them passing up all that free advertising.

Just my 2¢.  Smiley Wink

Edited to add:  I'm glad you got yours worked out, VegasMom!
