So I never got one of these before. I am used to either being approved or denied a CC and only up until this year have I ever recon a denial.
So to make a long story short, I wanted to get the BOA Cash Rewards Visa Signature. However without being a current BOA member (I was a few years ago) I fell under the 3/12 rule, which I would not be under until late next year. So I decided to open a checking account to est relationship again and force the 7/12 rule which I was under. Finally got the account information today to create online account. So since I was all ready, I decided to try for the Visa Card. So after putting in all my information (which was basically auto filled since it took it from my new online account) I clicked submit, and I got...a denial with a counter offer?
The card was not the one I wanted with $200 Bonus after spending $1000. Instead, they switched it to a secure card, with a refundable $99 fee, and only $500 spending limit, with NO Bonus (however it did have rewards).
So what was I to do? Decline the offer and do all that work (not to mention I had to lay out $1500 for that checking account) and get nothing or accept the offer and not get the $200 Bonus and have to lay out $99 for a secured card, which I never had in my life. Not a happy app I must say.
I opted to accept the offer, but here's the thing - does this count as a decline and an approval? Does the offer mean its a 2nd HP?
Another odd thing about the app is it said if you want to check the status of your app, you can online. It showed 2 application IDs, BOTH for secured cards (which the Visa signature is not) one showing approved and the other not. Weird.
Something tells me in the long run I made a mistake trying for this card.

Congrats. It just one HP. Card will should unsecure in 5 months and grow fast after a year.

Thanks @Anonymous !
I am guessing the unsecure happens on it's own without a request?

You card will graduate probably to the original card you wanted. Congrats

I called and asked to unsecure it right at 5 months mark

Curious - why 5-months and not 4-months or 6-months - is 5-months a known DP?

It's just earliest it can unsecure. It used to be longer. If you search for posts you will find some DPs and more info
It's a good thing you took the secured card. I declined the offer for the secured card two years ago when I applied for the same card. I tried two years later, and now they won't even offer me any cards. I applied in January, and I've been a banking customer for 20 years also.

Thanks. I have been tossing and turning on if I made the right choice - but lately I am thinking I did (like your post just re-assured me
).
I figure even if it stays @ $500, I can still take advantage of the cash back perks. My main goal is to get that $99 back ![]()

Congrats on your offer. Thank you for providing those additional details/data points.
