So, I've been with this card since 2004. Excellent payment history, no misses in 17 years. Never have asked for a CLI, all my increases have been auto generated by BOFA. I have a checking, savings, money market accounts with them for almost 20 years, even had a car loan at one time with them. My current limit is $21,500, I saw the credit increase option online so I took a jab it for the heck of it. I don't use the card much, but do charge on it every month. Current balance is $203. So, I asked for 6K more to $27,500. Got the dreaded 7-10 day written decision.?? My fico score is 800 when I checked online with BOFA. I have opened new accounts recently, maybe they'll come back with too many inquiries? Oh well....we shall see what happens....
I'm looking to increase my BOFA Cash Rewards Visa. I'm currently at $21,500. I want it to be an even $30,000. The CLI increase option is available when i log into my account. Ive been with this card since 2004, never missed any payments with them, paid off balances throughout the years and i currently only have $203 on the card as of this moment. I don't use the card regularly since I have other cards i put into use more, but i feel good that i can get an increase due to the fact I do all my banking with them and have plenty of history. I've never asked for a CLI with this card before as all my increases have been auto generated by BOFA. When i check my Fico score on the online banking it says 800.
I have a BoA Platnum Plus and two weeks ago requested a CLI, which was granted (went from 11.5 to 15k). It was a soft pull. The very nice rep with whom I spoke asked me how much of an increase I wanted and granted what I asked for after less than a minute of checking. I'm pretty sure I would have been approved for more and should have asked for $20k.
As a BofA customer, my rep told me last week it is only a SP on Transunion. New card accounts they pull HP Experian.
My best guess is they'll send a letter with reasoning being something to the effect of "current limit is sufficient based on use" or something like that. This is assuming your mentioning of monthly use being in the ~$200 range is correct. Good new is it's only a SP so no loss on your part and you can always try again in the future
Don't despair. DW was in a very similar spot several months ago when she submitted her first BofA CLI request ever. She got the 7-10 day message, and within a couple days they gave her somewhere around $5k. It was less than she had requested, but not bad.
She tried again a week ago. Asked for $16k and got it instantly. Seems like, for whatever reason, they needed to review the first one manually before they gave her access to the big, instant increases. Fingers crossed that your experience will be like that.
I would just apply for an additional card. It may be easier to obtain then a CLI on this one.
Thanks
Mark
You don't need to wate for the letter, you can call 888 762 5486 an analyst will answer line. On Sunday I called to ask for credit increase and was that I would get letter in seven days. This morning I called back door number and spoke to nice guy he was able to increase increase line by 2K on my cash rewards visa by taking 2K from my Mastercard which had limit of 25K which is now 23K and my visa has total limit of 18KK. I would give them call before 8pm est, they are not in on weekends. With that experience with BOA you should be able to get some thing from. Good luck.
Yes, as the others have said, it's definitely a SP. I got it in writing! I wrote about it in this thread. Go for it! ![]()

I got an email this morning from BOFA stating that after careful review they cannot approve my CLI at this time and to wait for the letter in the mail explaining the decision. Wow, i at least thought they would counter, but it's a fat denial. I guess by not using the card much, that did me in. The request credit increase still shows up online, should i hit it again and ask for something smaller? Do you guys think i went over the $25K mark that had some sort of an affect? I only asked for 6K more. Oh well....
