Hey All;
Has anyone had any luck getting reconsideration for a card from Bank Of America?
I was declined on the Alaska Airlines Visa for too many inquiries (refinanced the house, car etc) and late payments (most recent was 5 years ago.. my credit has been so cleaned up since then)... American Express just increased my line to 5k, and I got a 10k PenFed Visa... all other cards are over 5k. Bankcard scores are 695eq, 703tu and 714ex.
I will say... back when I was 19 (16 years ago lol) I sort of "burned them" when I was young and stupid with my first credit card... not sure how long their memory is... but even American Express has warmed up to me over the years.
The two numbers posted online for B Of A reconsideration dont work... Customer Service said (twice) that I needed to write a letter to Card Services in San Antonio and that they would get back to me in 7-10 days... it's been 30, and not heard anything back.
I wrote a very nice letter explaining the source of my inquiries in the last year, and explaining how my credit has improved and money management has been on track in the 5 years since I had a late payment... asked them to give me a chance with a $500 credit limit (which in the T&C's for that card is the minimum) or a secured version of it (16 years ago they offered a secured version... I know from past experience). I also followed up two weeks ago.
Does anyone have an updated reconsideration number or address? I know both CSRs I spoke to gave me the San Antonio address (PO Box 15019)... but no love...
Any ideas? I figured my next step would be to try and rain letters across multiple B of A addresses, and maybe even a few at Alaska Airlines. I've ended up needing to travel a chunk lately, Alaska is my preferred airline, and I could really use the free baggage that this card offers. It wouldn't replace my Bonvoy Brilliant for everyday spend -- but definitely would get all my airfare and maybe even replace my Citi Costco as the "Visa when they won't take AmEx" card.... so I'd be happy with whatever I can get lol

Since you have called twice and have sent a letter, and if the letter doesn't work I would just move on . I don't think continuing to bombard them with letters is going to work .
There are other lenders out there.
As mentioned above, BoA isn't known for reconsideration successes these days.
Most decisions are automated and UW analysts aren't able to override (with very few exceptions), especially if declined for inquiries and/or new accounts in the past 6-12 months, more so the past 6 months.
Good luck with your recon. fingers crossed.
I wouldn't waste your time if they haven't responded yet. There are plenty of other lenders in the sea. Best of luck!
OP
IMHO, Dont be the applicant who cant accept that no means no. A record is kept of every call, every email, every letter; so do you really want to be known as the applicant whom CSRs groan, "oh no, it's him again," even if you're nice about it.
As others have said, there are way more fish in the sea.
BofA is annoying with inquiries. They refuse to give me CLI or even product change my card just because of my high number of inquiries.
I'd say your best bet is to wait 6 months with no inquiries and try again.

Same here. I submitted a few days ago. Called today, and was told my CLI was denied due to the number of inquiries only.
Oh well.

This. Unfortunately, these days, no pretty much means no with BoA. If the computer declines you it's unlikely to be overturned.
You've already called and snail mailed so at this point I'd let it go and try again in 3-6 months with no further inquiries.
