Bank of America CLI needs more information after requesting

Hey all.

Recently, I was doing CLI for my BoA Travel Reward card. I had BoA credit card since my college days through their secured credit and had been unsecured since very long time and just few weeks ago, I did a product change to the Travel Reward. I remembered that it started at 500 limit and BoA did an automatically increment to 1000 and it has been that since then. Not that I would complain about it since I know, nowadays, they hardly do auto CLI anymore and I rarely use this card since I have other cards that are much better. But still, I need to use it sometimes in order to keep it open.

So I decided to call the CS numbers and told them that I wanted to increase to 7000. The CS guy took my income info and workplace. However, after the guy put me on hold, he came back and told me at that moment, BoA could not approve or disapprove my CLI application and they will send out a letter to collect more information. I am not sure why would they not accept the CLI immediately since my credit score is in the 750 range (CreditKarma, Discover and even BoA themselves reported the similar range) and no bad stuff in the credit history. I don't have any hard inquiries since my last inquiries were 2 years ago and they have been cleared since a few days ago. There are 2 things that I think could affect the immediate decision. First, it might be something to do with the verification of my income or workplace since my salary has been increased compared to previous year, but that should not be difficult to prove and they could just do that quite quickly by looking up my direct deposits in my BoA checking and also I have used that same info to get CLI succesfully from Discover and AMEX early in the year. The second thing that I can think of is my auto and student loan. I still pay them monthly and they are not pretty high but that is my opinion and not the their.

So has anyone experience the same thing? What kind of information that I would expect to provide them in order to get them to approve my CLI application? Would there be any different if I use the online banking and do it there instead of calling? The only reason I called was to confirm if it is actually a hard pull when doing CLI from BoA.

Thanks.

I've always let the computer decide with the BofA CLIs. Do you have an "increase limit" showing in your account online. None of the stuff you've mentioned should be a factor.
For future reference, do your request online. Let the computer decide what CLI to give you. You can bump it roughly every 90 to 180 days until you max out from what I've seen.
Sounds like verification, which isn't a big deal. They'll send you a letter to call them or their verification department will call you and asked a couple of questions to make sure you are you.

Just got the letter. I forgot about the status of my account since it is pretty old. So the reason why they could not approve immediately was that the account was a joint account with my dad and they require his consent in order to do the CLI. Kind of waste his inquiry as well since they did not notify me that this is a joint account and I just remember that later on. Since then, I had called in and they were happy to remove him from the account so I will not have to deal with the same problem again in the future. Futhermore, they accepted the CLI, but only for 3900, not 7000 like I wanted. So maybe I will try again later like you suggested. So is the 90-180 days estimation and for every CLI after this, will it be a hard pull everytime? And will using the online CLI yield better increment than speaking to them? BoA kinds of cheap on giving high CLI despite my record. Anyway, thanks for the early answer.

It will be a hard pull every time. If you wanted, you could apply for another card and it will most likely utilize the same pull.
Generally, BoA will combine pulls within 30 days of a hard pull.
