Bank of America Credit Card Application Help

Hello,

I've recently applied for Bank of America Cash Rewards card. I already have a credit card, but I am young and I felt this would be another good card for me to build credit with desirable rewards.

I was not instantly approved for the card, so I would check back each day to see if my application was approved or denied online. Eventually I noticed that my application was denied and that I would be getting a letter in the mail explaining my denial. A week or so later I recieved a letter stating that I needed to call a number to verify more information for them to give further consideration to my application. I did this, and the questions were very similar to the questions I have answered on a credit report. After hanging up the phone I googled the number and was very concerned to find that some people have reported the number as fraudulent, and some had reported it as legitimate. I took the proper steps that day to ensure that my identity was protected as best as possible, and am still actively monitoring it (no red flags). However, 2 days after this phone call, I noticed my online application went from "denied" to "in-review" again, which the man over the phone said would happen - which leads me to believe it was legitimate.

My best bet is that Bank of America outsources their credit checking, which is why a google-search of the number does not immediately tag it to Bank of America. My only concern is, two weeks later my application went from "in-review" to "denied" again, and I recieved the same exact letter with the same phone number and message, asking me to verify my identity.

I am very hesitant to call the number and go through the process again. I did not give my SSN during the first phone call, but they knew me by name and reference number. I just want to know if this is a legit caller and/or common occurence. I have looked up online that there are a lot of BoA recon numbers I can call to review my application, but I am just worried of calling one of those numbers and it ends up being an information scam.

I really want this BoA card as the rewards work perfectly for me, but I'm getting skeptical with this process. I am not a BoA member so whenever I try to call customer support I am not able to get through to a live person as I do not have a BoA account number.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Bank of America Credit Card Application Help

Sounds like you’re close to approval. They provided you with the number to call for verification. You might even get a decision over the phone once you’ve been verified. Good luck.

It's clear to me that you're stuck in a loop where you re-live the same week over and over.

Re: Bank of America Credit Card Application Help

Clearly this number is legitimate if you received it in an official written correspondence from BoA, not to mention the reps were able to locate your number with a proprietary reference number. There are no worries there.

As others have mentioned, call again. Ask to speak to a manager who will be able to give you more insight on your application.
