Bank of America Credit Cards

Does BofA have a time span that needs to go by after being denied for credit?

I've been helping my young niece build her profile and when we app'd almost 4 months ago she was shot down.  Since then I've got her stats far more favorable which has caused an increase in her scores (EX went from 679 to 746).

I'd like her to get the Americard next and want to re-app but don't want to waste the HP if their internals won't allow for it.

Thanks all!

Re: Bank of America Credit Cards

Hey Asilomar,

An easier way of getting her approved is to make her an Authorized User (AU) on a parent or relative account. I think it is better if her parents do it (If they have good credit) they great thing is she doesn't necessarily needs the card (you could add her to yours and she will be issued a card but you never have to actually give it to her.) As long as you keep your perfect credit it helps her. Just my two cents.

Re: Bank of America Credit Cards

I'd imagine four months is enough providing reasons on denial letter are now resolved.

Time wise, it should be fine, but there is no other info about her profile that would help guesswork around her chances.

Re: Bank of America Credit Cards

Thanks for the reply, @Remedios.  I didn't want to bother the forum with too many details given that the crux of my question was about BofA's policies rather than her odds of approval.

We've resolved all that can be in such a short time frame.  What she needs now is a few good tradelines and time.  Well, that and a new SSL technique.  Smiley Wink

Re: Bank of America Credit Cards

A few DPs for anyone reading this in the young/thin/just getting started boat...

BofA did approve my niece for 5K.  They pulled EX.  She has 3 individual tradelines (one of those is a 5 year old student card but the other two are 8 months and 4 months old) and is an AU on my 53K Amex.  Total credit line (sans the AU) was 6,300, total utl was 29% (3% with the AU), individual utl was 42%, 0%, 0%.  No derogs.

When she was declined she had 2 tradelines, was not an AU, total utl was 85% with one card at 99%.

Re: Bank of America Credit Cards

Authorized user accounts can help a lot. They establish a history, show someone trust this person (even if they never give them the card; although my 13 y.o. has several cards with very high limits), and establish a history with that bank.

What reasons did they give for turning her down?
