Has anyone had any success after multiple tries of a recon with bank of america?
I recently applied for a secured credit card as I am on the road to building solid credit. I was denied. Reason listed was collections.
Now, I have one item on my collections that will be removed from the report within the next 30 days( that she never even mentioned as a reason for denial). the rest of my collections are hospital bills(about 8 of them).
When i spoke with the credit analyst, she pointed out to me 4 items on my report that are the cause for denial(all of them medical bills. 1 being a couple years old a little over $1k, and 3 of them for a total of about $500). She told me the others they didn't really care about due to their age and amounts, but with these being so recent, they had to deny me. The manual review did not change my denial for this secured card, but it did give me some insight. Now, I will be working on getting these removed as all of these visits were insured and should have been paid by my insurance company, but I know that this will be a process that takes time. In the mean time, what would my chances be of getting another representative who would recon and give me an approval? Would it look bad if I called again without any changes to my credit report?
Sorry to hear about the denial. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you can call as many times as you want, and the result will likely be the same. If you have time to be ringing and trying to convince them to approve you then by all means knock yourself out doing so.
If I were in your shoes, I'd work on what the analyst said caused the denial and while at it as it takes time to remove baddies, I'd strategize on getting another secured card with a company that is a bit more lenient.
Bad news is better than wrong news :sigh:
Tried capital one and no approval with them either.
Im working on it now though. I noticed that one of the collections was actually a sprint bill for service that I never activated due to a deposit I believe. but they apparently activated it without the deposit. I never got a phone or phone number or anything. by the time I seen the bill, it was a few month late and had already been sent to collections.
the medical bills, I had insurance, so they shouldn't be too hard to get removed.
Your response may not be what I wanted to hear, but it's what I needed to hear.

I am sorry to hear about Capital One. What are your FICO scores if you don't mind me asking? I asked because by laying your credit profile bare, you might get some good responses / recommendations.

Ok. Do you have any cards now? Waht other baddies do you have apart from the four baddies BOA talked about? How old is your credit file?
On one of my reports there is a judgement. Not sure if it is the report that capital one used or not.
Other than the judgement, I have a sprint bill for the service that I never got and quite a few medical bills that I've mentioned.
I believe my credit file said 8 years was my oldest record. The only credit card that I have at the moment is a Credit one secured card that I got 3 months ago, and I was just preapproved for a victoria secret store card using the shopping cart trick. Now I've got to find me a girlfriend.
I did speak with the hospital with the larger debt(one of the 4 that BofA was concerned with) and they told me for some reason the insurance never paid it due to some missing information, but the insurance had paid a bill from months prior from the same hospital which was odd to me. I just spoke with the insurance company, and he stated that he doesnt even know how its still active in the system as they usually would have purged something so old by now, but this one was stuck. he doesnt see any reason why it wouldn't have been paid, so he created a ticket and provided me a reference number.
How would something like this usually work out, given that it is now in collections and debt is about $200 more expensive than the original bill was? Would the insurance company usually pay the collection agency the full amount, or pay the hospital the original amount? If the hospital, how would I get this collection removed from my report? When I spoke to the hospital originally and asked about paying(not that I wanted to as I knew insurance should have covered it) they said they couldnt even accept payment for a hospital bill that has been passed off to collections. Clearly, this bill is not my responsibility and should not be on my CR. crooks I tell you.

Congrats at least on the VS card. Since the debt has been passed onto the collection agency, the hospital cannot accept payment so that is correct. Have you contacted the collection agency to tell them what the insurance company said to you? Also, have you tried to dispute it on your credit reports?
Because of your scores, try and get into NFCU using this method. Once you do, you should be able to get a credit card with at least a limit of $500 to get you going. They are very lenient. http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Personal-Finance/NLUS-San-Diego-alive-and-well/td-p/4640823
Once you get in with them, aggresively tackle the baddies on your report. Also, try getting a secure card from SDFCU- https://www.sdfcu.org. They are lenient with the secured card as well.
I appreciate the tips. I will definitely look into NFCU. I really just started working on the medical stuff today and it was too late to speak with someone at the collection agency, so I will give them a call tomorrow. My insurance company said that I should supply them with the reference number so they have access to getting the updates in regards to the bill as well. The rep for the insurance company said that this has sped up the process of getting the medical bills removed from others' credit reports and it may help mine as well. I filed the disputes today online for one of the CAs so far and will follow up with the others soon. I may have disputed incorrectly by selecting paid off given that it wasn't. I thought it was a slip up by the hospital as I couldnt understand my insurance not paying, but it seems as though they actually didn't.

You are welcome. Yes, stay on top of things regarding your reports and you will see an increase in a short amount of time as things fall off.
