BankAmericard, Worth it?

I currently have a BOA debit card/checking/savings and have had it for over 5 years now. After many ridiculous charges and awful customer service, I finally decided to close my acct with them when they notified me that my 2 local branchs will be closing soon and would have to travel atleast 30 mins for a bank. On top of that, 2 weeks ago while away on vacation, when I signed into my bank account I received a pop up saying that my account was compromised at a major retailer and they will be sending me a new card etc. When I called and asked what store it was, they said they didn't know which one just that it was at a major retailer.

The acct is still active but I plan on switching in the next week or so....UNTIL ...

I received the BankAmericard Cash Rewards offer I have been preselected for.

1% Cash back everywhere

2% Grocery Stores

3% Cash Back on Gas

$100 Cash Back Bonus  if I spend $500 in the first 3 months.

0% Apr for 15 billing cycles

10% bonus if I deposit the cash back back into my BOA checking or savings.

Pull the trigger and break my 7 month gardening streak AND put up with having BOA for atleast another 15 months?!

Sure, pull the trigger.  Look you will get the $100 cash back bonus and the 0% interest for 15 month this would be a no brainer for me.

Good luck if you pull the trigger.

Re: BankAmericard, Worth it?

OP- it sounds like you anwsered the question yourself. Why would you want to sign up for another hassle with bank of america? that cash rewards card is super standard rewards wise. If you have a legit prequal with BOA, then im sure you could get an offer with a different lender for a card you want.

heck no, not unless you are desperate for a card.... did it list a specific APR?

only reason we have a Boa CR is due to a mandated PC from the plain bank americard mastercard...

Since you are apping you may as well go for the Better Balance Rewards, keep your account open with them, throw a bill on the BBR, set it to auto pay. Then enjoy the free $120 per year.

Re: BankAmericard, Worth it?

We have a savings and checking with B of A, not real impressed with them. We are actually thinking about changing banks, May try to open up an account with a credit union I am going to try re-financing my car with. Its just a hassle trying to change direct deposit stuff and other things that draft.

I understand, I recently did this from BOA to Chase. It just took a little work to get everything changed over. I have several CC's, student loans, direct deposit etc.

But I did it and I am happy that I did.

Re: BankAmericard, Worth it?

I had checking and savings with BofA, but closed them (twice now in two decades).

I do have the cash rewards card though. So no bank account needed to have their card (though you do get additional money back to put your rewards into a BofA account.

You could of course, just leave open the savings account as well.

Re: BankAmericard, Worth it?

It's my go to gas card unless I'm buying at BJ's. For the free 100 they gave me it was worth the pull so to me the gas is a bonus. I say go for it.

Re: BankAmericard, Worth it?

heck no.
Unless you really think that card will be a work horse for you.

I've dealt with folks in branch and over the phone; folks in branch are always nice although a bit pushy in sales (expected). But the folks on the phone? absolutely. horrible.

So if your nearest branch is going to be thirty minutes away you'll probably be more inclined to call (plus they shortened the branch hours no?)

I wouldn't. There are better bonus offers and cards out there.

Re: BankAmericard, Worth it?

BofA as a bank sucks.. CC lender debateable on who you ask.  As a company horribly ran IMO.  I switched a few years back and never looked back.
