Apping for a family member. Instantly said NO and have to MAIL, not EMAIL or even FAX front and back of DL, SS card, utility bill.
**bleep**! WHY?!!!
This person does use two different last names. Primarily one more than the other. Well today we entered in the one that is on her DL. And we also used a cell phone instead of the usual home phone. This has to be what triggered it. She just didnt want people calling her at home, and instead call her cell phone.
This is the card she needs the most. But now we are gonna have to wait probably 2 or 3 more weeks on apping for the AmexED And the PRG for the 75k bonus points after spending 2k cuz barclay aint gonna let that fly! UGH!
We were extremely polite on the phone and said how excited we were to have the best card in the world. The rep was very polite and said by looking at things she said there was little chance of denial. Strange thing is there is no HP yet for any of the CRs.
You could send it overnight mail to help speed things up ![]()
Multiple names could do it (are both on her CRs?); it's not uncommon for people to get asked for verification docs for any reason. If it's -just- verification, she's probably going to get approved. Good luck to her.
Quicksilver $10,000 | Better Balance Rewards $2000 | Sallie Mae $3500 | Freedom $3500Not sure why you find it strange that someone that uses two last names would run into security/verification issues. If they didn't, I would be shocked then. Short of marriage why does someone use two last names?

Yes to the multiple names. I have no clue why she does it. But whatever.
I pray to god you are right! Because we basically had to sit down and decide, ok, barclays ring, then amex everyday, then the prg, and thats it otherwise if csp was even a remote possibility that would have been first. But she has no desire to get chase. Especially after how great BOA was to her. Letting her apply and get approved for the americard 21 months no interest, and letting me PC to a world mastercard a month later with the 321 rewards AND get the free $100.
She is weird and almost ALWAYS carries a balance, even though it could be PIF'ed. Basically she is paying to have a tiny tiny bit more money is what it boils down to, that and laziness. This way I can log in, do the transfer, and feel that much better from a couponers standpoint! lol.

from two marriages. and having children with both last names. its complicated.
That is a great idea to overnight it. But the rep said it basically would be 2 or 3 weeks. So I figured what would 2 or 3 less days do.
Would it even be worth calling back on Monday to talk to someone higher up to reprocess this with a different name?
The strange thing too, was when we were on hold at first, the same woman we were talking to, calls back on the same number to verify the phone number. It was very suspicious because that number isnt even the one that was listed on the app to begin with! It was her home phone number. Guess they probably have caller ID.
The whole thing boiled down to this. I wanted her to get this card so bad. I insisted she use the name that was on her DL (90 percent of her cards DONT have that last name). And 2nd, I wanted to make sure if anything went wrong or if they needed to reach her, to call her cell phone. That number is not listed, nor has she used that for any other cards, and its not listed on her credit report. Lol. I guess being inconsistent with the info in this case was a BAD idea.

Ah, that makes sense. I'm sure she'll get approved after they get the documents.. It can't hurt to have her call again. I think at some point though that she needs to be consistent with her names especially when it comes to credit. Only bad things like split credit files can result. She should match her credit to her DL because that's what most commonly is asked for identification. Is the name on her DL the same as it is with Social Security and what she files taxes under?

Yup, you nailed it. It all began years ago when preapprovals came with the other name and she figured it was best to go with what they had. Then it kinda stuck! It does irritate some people in the family though LOL

Not to mention with ID theft being so prevalent these days I can appreciate that they caught the (rather obvious) discrepancy since if it had been a case of ID theft..... well U know the rest.
Just an update on this whole situation. So a letter had came stating they weren't able to approve at this time. We sent in all the requested docmentation quite a ways back....so I was fairly certain this was a denial letter.
Called in, was transferred about 5 or 6 times (btw the final dept wouldn't give me their direct line, was trying to get it for you guys)
Low and behold, instant approval for $10,000. Now we are cookin'.
What do you guys think about barclay ring with initial credit limits? At activation is it ok to request more? All I've found here was moving limits around from one barclaycard to another.
Whatever the case, she couldn't be happier to have this super cool card. Cheap cash advances in a pinch, no BT fees ever. Credit union esque APR. Wow.
Funny thing I have been receiving mailers now from barclaycard for their regular rewards card. Says 24.99% apr tho. No thanks!
Congrats!! 10k is a REALLY good SL for Barclay... I wouldn't push it requesting more, but that's just me because I'm not a limit pusher (I'm a big chicken). Tell your friend to use it heavy and make large payments, and they should see an auto increase in 6 months.
