Barclay

i decided to poke the bear via a CLI. I have their rewards cards with a CL of $4500. My balance is a whopping $99. I got declined for a CLI and got my letter today. I was declined for having a too high of a balance! Major WTH! My fico score on the bottom is a 752. My attitude right now is to call them and close it out asap. My thinking is that it, that they wont be a getting any swipe fees from me for a good LONG time. Right now, the card is in drawer, not long for the light of day. I know Im highly upset right now. Has this happened to anyone recently and if so, how did you deal with it

Re: Barclay

A good customer initiated CLD did wonders for me. We put a lot of spend through the Arrival plus when I had it. I was declined for a CLI. I closed the card. The UW offered me a $2500 increase to keep it open..I still closed it. Lol

No offense but would they give you a CLI when you barely use the card..

I dont either, but this board if full of hate and rage, it seems to be the common method of operation.  I've been trying to share the message of peace, love, and forgiveness, but it isnt  popular.  Heck, it wasnt even popular 2000 years ago when someone more enigmatic shared it, so I am not shocked.

I believe Barclay was my 2nd card in a post-bk rebuild.  They havent treated me as good as you and your wife, but they did give me a shot when few others would, and for that I'm grateful, regardless of slow growth on CLIs.  The card certainly helped my score and to get other cards, so it's served a purpose regardless.

Anyhow, I do agree and wish more people would open their hearts to Barclay and put their bitterness aside for a bit.

EDIT: To the OP:  Have you called to recon them?  It might be worth your while!

Oh, come on now. Sure, folks get frustrated when things don't go the way they want, and sometimes vent that frustration here. But boards that are "full of hate and rage" are usually political boards, which is why I don't go near them.

I think there's a couple problems here: Yes, CCCs actually want you to use a CC to justify a CLI. And in my experience when a software system doesn't want to give an approval it picks out any negative line in a Fico report to justify the decline. I was once declined for a CLI and the reason given was "Too many consumer loans". I had one at the time, a Prosper loan, well paid down so what the heck does that to do with a CLI on a CC?

But I think the real reason here is that the Rewards card has been closed for new apps since last year, and when Barclays closes a card for new apps it usually means it's headed for the chopping block. They don't want to give CLIs on a card they plan on phasing out, because folks with a nice CL will be even more PO'd when they get that "We're converting your good card to a crappier one, with a new account that will lower your AAoA" letter.
