That sucks but as long as you get your gf to have at it again next month before they phase out the card, I think she'll be good.
I will definitely have her apply again. It will go well with the 50K Citi AA card she was approved at the same time I applied for the Barclays card.

Sorry to hear that. So if they know that is the case on (Darius's site - million mile secret) why isn't the link taken down? Definately have her apply again.
You might luck out and get an ever higher signup bonus in the last push to get new cardholders.

Ya thinking the last month they might bump it to 70k and milk the crud out of it.

I didn't have time to explain earlier, but what everyone else said about preferred link is correct. If you applied direct it works, I applied from barclays site and got instant approval.
I'll know better next time but there is absolutely nothing on the link that indicates it's a preferred link. The applications are identical and from what the last CSR said its not really any kind of preferred link but a problem on Barclays side that makes it appear that way. She said that they are getting lots of calls and complaints about the issue.

Ok I totally missed that preferred status part even though it's in big red letters several times (ok I'm an idiot) but wonder how I was approved because I'm certainly not preferred
