Barclays Card Acceptance AND Decline

After 6 months of having a Discover Card this week I got my PenFed Rewards card. Tonight I got decline to a Barclays Arrival Plus and then got instantly accepted over reconsideration. Follwoing the advice of many forums I also immediately applied for the Cash Forward Card to prevent a second Hard Inquiry. I got declined and a second HP but couldn't get accepted or even a chance to get the card from the service rep because of my 6-7 month credit history sited as the reason even though 10 minutes before I got praised for how much I payed off my Discover Card and showed to be a promising card holder. If I call back another time will IO have a chance to get a more accepting representative?

Re: Barclays Card Acceptance AND Decline

IMO no. You were approved for 2 cards...one via recon. I think you are fortunate for the first recon.....but a second one with the same company? Im sure it could happen, but rarely. Kinda like lightening striking in the same place twice within seconds.

Congrats on your new cards!

+1 Justa

Remember sucessfully reconing 1 card is awesome, but as much as they praise ones paying off other cards, they are still reading from a script and will always try to make you feel like you are a winner. With a 6-7 month credit history take your victory and enjoy itSmiley Happy

Also I only got approved for $1000, on all the forums the lowest I ever heard of for the Arrival plus card was $2000

That could be a good thing Swisstaco. Barclays isn't a lender I'd put much faith in. Congrats, but tread lightly with them. They are well known to close accounts or reduce CLs for no good reason.

Re: Barclays Card Acceptance AND Decline

Yeah I feel you, I'm so happy to have gotten the card because I wanted that one the most. I'll be studying in Europe for the next 3 years so the pin and chip was a must for me. I just got confused because I studied barclays methods accross so many forums and nothing went as described by others.

Its nice though all my HPs from discover and Barclays are on TU with PenFed pulling two from Experian that they explained shouldn't affect future credit because the credit score remained the same it was a glitch in their system that they can fight experian if needed

Re: Barclays Card Acceptance AND Decline

The title is misleading. You were declined, approved AND THEN declined again. If you were accepted off the bat for the first card you'd have a better chance of getting a recon on the 2nd card. But I feel like you already used that lifeline so chances of another recon are slim. I've read stories of people who are persistent with their recons and call numerous times (Not Barclays specifically, just in general reconning). Who knows, you may be able to pull it off as well. If they don't require another HP for recon, then there's really nothing to lose.

Also, I've never read anything about Barclays combining pulls so two HPs isn't suprising. However, PenFed does use the same pull for 60-90 days. That one you should be able to get away with applying for multiple cards and not get another pull.

Re: Barclays Card Acceptance AND Decline

Careful, Barclays doesn't like too many new accounts in a short period of time after you get an account with them.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.....
Always follow these rules: Only take a HP for a new account. Always use the best rewards card for that reward category. Don't close a card unless you know you really should. Never use more than 35% of a credit limit. Recon as much and as best you can. Use the introductory period to the best advantage. Get the signup bonus. Whenever possible PIF or balance transfer so you pay less in interest. Never give an excellent rating when it is actually the norm. Always look for a discount as more is always better.
Always accept candy from strangers because they have the best candy or from people you know have good candy.
